2000 Kubota L4610
I bought my filters for the 100 hour service on my
L4610 HST from the local auto supply house (Wix). They had all but the transmission filter. Next I went to the local oil jobber and checked to see if they had the equivilant (Baldwin) but no luck. Next went to Napa and gave them the Kubota filter number. No Problem! Not only did they have it in stock, it was only 6 bucks . I thought I was doing well to have saved 31 bucks, and I wondered why the auto supply house didn't have the same thing since they make Napa's filters. Put the filter on and went to work hauling buckets of gravel up the hill to my barn site. Went well for an hour or so then the gasket blew out of the filter and sent hydraulic fluid all over. Drove 120 miles to the Kubota dealer to get the real item (37 bucks) and took the other filter back to Napa to get my money back. I wasnt mad at the store owner since they go by Napa's reference #, but I am not very impressed with the accuracy of Napa's cross reference. The Kubota filter was different, having 3 metal ribs internally and the rubber gasket was considerably beefier than the Napa filter. That was only what I could see that was obvious. The Napa filter was the right size and installed without a hitch. Glad it didnt damage anything, and I learned my lesson for the cost of a oil slick and a long trip to town.
