How in the heck do you get to the HST filter on the XR3140H or XR3135H? Coming up on 50 hour and rolled under best I could reach with filter pliers and what a pain. Anyone have suggestions to get to the filter to get it off?

Thinking building a ramp out of 2X12s to get a little ground clearance and still bear the weight of tractor front wheels. Sheesh!

If you could put up a photo of the filter showing how much room you have to work with, someone not familiar with your LS might come up with something. I've built a couple of crude but effective oil filter wrenches over the years.

Bought a NAPA wrench after breaking a similar wrench from advanced auto, broke on the first tug.

Looks like this, but the NAPA unit is quality.

2 In. Locking Chain Clamp

I think once filters are installed then the machine gets painted.
I fought both hydraulic and oil filter until I got this tool. Easy peasy afterwards.

I don't remember having any problems removing or installing that filter. Is it the filter or a clearance issue that your having?

The hydraulic filters are tight on my 2 Kubota M9's and it's a pair of them side by side.

My SOP for removing filters that are hard to access / reach is a large Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer. I hammer the screwdriver through the filter case (with a drain pan underneath of course and use the screwdriver handle to loosen the filter and the finish the job by hand twisting. Never had a filter on anything get the best of the screwdriver and hammer in 30 years. Oil filters, hydraulic filters or any filter that is in cramped quarters.

Clearance issue...tight quarters

Need about 3 additional inches of ground clearance to see what I'm doing

When i hit 50 hrs on my LS I attempted to remove the hydrolic filter only to find out that Atlas the strong man must have used a 48 inch pipe wrench to install my filter, i tried the chain wrench nothing nothing i had would budge only crush it finally used 2 ft bar with sharp end to punch through filter in a position that i could get a cheater pipe on it i had to work it a while to get it to move. I have never had a filter that tight on any piece of equipment or auto. The oil filter was tight but nothing like my hydraulic filter. I used my shop vac to keep the hydraulic fluid from draining out as i punched holes and removed the filter.

You avatar shows tractor with FEL. Just fully dump the FEL, then use the FEL to lift the tractor up. If you are concerned with the FEL falling, rig up a couple of 2x4s or a piece of angle iron to block the cylinders from retracting. This should give you plenty of clearance to work.
As for getting the filter off, I have not found a filter that I couldn't remove with the Harbor Freight filter pliers. If the filter housing is crushing, just move them to the area right next to the tractor where the thick plate is in the filter. It wont crush there.

I have a theory about why original filters are so hard to get off... One is supposed to coat the gasket with a film of oil before install. I'll bet the guy on the assembly line grabs a filter out of the bin and just screws it on. There is no oil dripping from the machine or on the gasket. That dry gasket sticks like glue. :smiley_aafz:
