Filters from Amazon.com

I'm a big fan on online shopping and Amazon is my go to source for most things. Either to actually buy it, or just read the reviews and look for a better price somewhere else. Sams beats Amazon all the time, but you can't get hydraulic filters at Sams Club. I have a commercial account with ABC Auto, which was a lot better then Napa, and where I've been buying all my stuff at for the last couple of years.

I'm replacing the filters on my dozer and I need 3 really big hydraulic filters. Sams wants over $70 each for them. Two are the same, one has a different number on it. I looked them up on Amazon and each one was $43 each!!!! Same Wix filters with the same exact numbers on them. Free delivery too.

The reason I looked on Amazon is because every time I went to the store to buy them, it was a two day wait to get them from the warehouse. They where delivered to my house in that much time and I never had to drive to a store to order them and then go back to pick them up.

I like Amazon too. it definetly pays to shop prices on parts. Most of the parts I get are from Amazon.
Tremendous inventory....
Sometimes it's not worth it to buy online, but most of the time convience is the deciding factor

I was once a big fan of Amazon but their competitiveness and service declined so much that I've gone over to eBay for both better prices and better service. It'll also be a cold day in hades before I pay someone to be their customer and do business with them. That is essentially what Amazon Prime is, paying them to be their customer. DUH! No thanks, I get all those advantages for free on eBay.

I just compared filter prices on Ebay and your right. The one I paid $42.95 on Amazon is $37.95 on ebay with free shipping!!! Thought I found a great deal, and now I know I could have done better!!

I use to use Amazon a lot then they started to slip and slide so after sending them a few emails warning them that I would, I finally switched. It seems things really started to slide when they came out with that Prime nonsense. To me that was simply an insult to my intelligence assuming I'm stupid enough to pay them for being a customer. NOT! I guess some people are actually dumb enough to support the lazy but I'm not one of em. I usually get to save the sales tax too something that Amazon charges now. Don't assume that because something is good it's going to stay that way. In a similar manner I've detected that Summit Racing is going to the dogs. I once went out of my way to do business with them but not so much anymore. Both service and price competitiveness are slipping however I see an increase in TV advertising. I guess they don't know the best advertising you can have comes from satisfied customers.
I usually don't mind paying a little more for service as long as I get the service but when I get neither, color me gone. There simply are no short cuts. To get ahead and stay ahead you just have to keep working at it and put your customers first.

Prime isnt paying to be a customer. It's much more.

I like Prime. It's like paying for Sams Club. I buy enough stuff from them that the free shipping more than pays for itself. I appreciate the tip to look on ebay. I've sort of forgotten them since Amazon came along. I tried to compare some of my other filters on there, but found that they are very limited in what they have. My dozer has six filters for oil, fuel and hydraulic oil. I only found two of them on ebay. My small tractor has two filters, neither are on ebay. My backhoe has 4 filters, only one was on ebay and it was more then Amazon with the shipping rates.

Amazon has every single filter that I use. I forgot to check on my lawn mower, but that's cheap at ABC and something they keep in stock.

I think the last filter set I bought came directly from the manufacturer (Donaldson). The internet search engine databases have become so good, that I do a lot of shopping lately by just googling a part number. Many search returns will include the price in the abstract, especially for Amazon stuff. So just pick the lowest price that also advertises free shipping.

It does simplify many inexpensive purchases to just use Amazon Prime as default. Price may not be the best, but good enough, and even if shipping isn't free it's usually cheaper than driving to go get it (and back).

Ditto for eBay, plus amazon taxes everything, eBay only if seller is in TX

I check preices on 3 places. Amazon, eBay, and RockAuto. I am not an AMZ Prime member, and so their shipping times are ridiculously long.
AMZ also has VERY POOR packing practices, which is irritating.

RockAuto is more difficult, because you have to figure shipping cost on top, but they can have good deals at times, & their ship times are the fastest. Well packed boxes too.

Ebay seems to have a wide variety, but you have to be careful for Chinese made off brands.
