I purchased a new sprayer and finished spraying 7 acres this past weekend. Before spraying with glyphosate, I tested the amount of fluid going through it... It is spraying a lot more than I want it to. I tried adjusting it with the pressure adjustment, but in order to keep a good spray pattern, I had to keep it at a high enough pressure... I managed to spray the entire area just before running out of my chemicals, but that was only because I first found out how much water I would be spraying with my test run and I adjusted my travel speed to about 6 1/2 to 7 mph. That's a bit faster than I'm comfortable traveling on my rough fields. It was hard on me and the tractor.

I'm interested in purchasing new nozzles for the sprayer to reduce the amount of fluid being sprayed, but keeping a good spray pattern at the same time. Can anyone help guide me to the correct nozzles to purchase? I have the FIMCO 55 gal. 3pth model.

I'm assuming that you have the 7 nozzle boom sprayer and that you put the equivalent of a Hypro 6500 pump on it. I'm also assuming that spraying glyphosate was a one-time event. That being the case, the nozzles you have might be fine for spraying broad leaf and liquid fertilizer. However, if you really want the control you might look at the Teejet line. I use a three-nozzle body on my boom sprayer and that pretty much covers every thing I spray.

Yes, I have the 12' boom with 7 nozzles. I don't recall the pumps model number (it's at my property and I'm not right now), but it is a Hypro 8 roller silver series. I don't expect to spray a lot of glyphosate, but I will be spraying more this fall and spot spraying sericea lespedeza with glyphosate as needed over the summer. I have a cost share agreement with the DNR and that's what they told me to do. Thank you for your help. Are there any specific nozzles you would suggest to help me with my problem? I appreciate the name brand help, but they have a lot of different nozzles.

Fimco sprayers come equipped with Tee-Jet nozzles. Good chance they're "yellow". Those nozzles work BEST at 50 psi operating pressure. @ 5mph, that puts down about 10 gal per acre (+ or -) Consult sprayer manual/Tee-Jet application rate chart for EXACT coverage. Mix proper amount of chemical per every 10 gallons of water and go. If you need MORE coverage or less water per acre, you may need different nozzles, but don't variate too far from correct operating pressure. If you do, you won't get correct atomization, resulting in big drops rather than a fine mist. You don't get a good application that way. Tee-Jet has a "user guide" that used to be available through their website or MOST of their dealers. Get it and study the different nozzles available. Some chemicals need a finer mist to get proper coverage. (fugasides usually need more pressure/finer mist/more water carrier than Round-Up as an example)

One thing to keep in mind. Tee Jet as well as any other manufacturers of sprayer accessories will offer everything from soup to nuts. Don't over-complicate or over-engineer your system. Keep it simple and you'll be more flexable as to what you can spray. Specific nozzles other than the "general purpose" models are use specific. LEarn to apply with the basic nozzles and you'll always have a good understanding of what's going on. The GP nozzles will spray 99% of available chemicals with great accuracy. Unless you're spraying very technical, restricted use products, anything beyond the basics is unneccisary most of the time, and more likely to cause trouble.

Thank you for the guidance. The nozzles are yellow as you said. I may just have to try lower pressure again. It didn't look like I was getting full coverage with the spray overlapping from each nozzle, but it's difficult to tell while sitting on the tractor. I can't get off to look, because the pto will stop. Thanks again.

Keep the pressure the same, just change the dilution to match the speed you want to travel.

So I have one of these FIMCO LG-55-3PT sprayers and it works great for laying down Amine 400 (2,4-D), but now I've put down 400lbs of fescue and need to get water on it, since we're not getting rain. I spent about an hour just putting down about 90 gals of water and would like to figure out how to replace or modify the yellow tips to get more water flow so it doesn't take so stinking long. Any ideas?

Can you post some photos of the nozzles? We might be able to identify them and find replacements.

That sprayer is not made for irrigation. You could remove the sprayer tips and just run open nozzles and still not get enough water for irrigation. Your best bet, if you cant run a garden hose to the area is a 275 gallon TOTE tank and just open the 1.5" drain and drive slowly forward and even then it will take a lot of tank fills to do any good for irrigation

It's this nozzle. spacer.gif

I give up, it won't display. It's the TeeJet® TP8002VP Yellow Flat Fan Tips.
