My TC35D finally got here today. Did a lottle bush-hogging, and tomorrow, a little box scraping. Having trouble with my finish deck though, the PTO shaft does not seem to want to hook up - The quick release collar seems to slide up OK, but the collar won't slide all the way up onto the PTO output shaft. Any suggestions?

Steve

Steve, with the collar started onto the PTO the shaft, hold pnto the U-joint and pull the collar ring back toward you. This releases the lock and allows the collar to slip forward and seat. Release the collar and the adapter should seat. In other words, you have to pull back on the collar to attach the adapter the same as you do to disconnect it. I'm guessing here that that is the problem. Hope this helps and congratulations on getting your tractor. Was it worth the wait?...as if I didn't know what you were going to say./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Congratulations Steve, I'm happy you got your tractor. The problem you mention is pretty typical on PTO locking collars. I don't know if its the balls needing a little wear in order to more easily engage into the groove, but it seems that after a period of time it more easily locks up. Best of luck with your New New Holland, Rat...

Even years after you buy them... the New Holland's are still New... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Steve, I think the other guys have already described how to do it, but I'd add that when it goes on, push and pull in both directions to make sure it's firmly and properly seated. A few years ago, I saw a guy on a big tractor take off mowing with a brush hog and he only got it up to PTO speed and made about a hundred feet when the PTO drive shaft came loose from the tractor. Of course all he could do was sit there on the tractor seat and wait until the centrifugal force of those spinning blades quit thrashing that drive shaft around. Sure was noisy./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Got it licked...

The dealer came by and showed me what to do today, and now I feel dumb, LOL...

Thanks to all, all of your suggestions helped. I mowed about 2 acres in 1/8th the time it used to take - my wife is very appreciative, as she is now the former grass cutter. Now for the brush cutter and the pasture...

Re: Got it licked...

ForceTen,

Don't feel dumb - I have only had my TC33D a year and have probably made almost every mistake - including figuring out the PTO and the shaft chains, and not locking the 3ph arms.etc

Hey, its not like we are born with this info - have fun and enjoy your tractor!
