Very nice! The strong structure and artistic cactus impression is very clever. The mailbox door handles and other Texana are nice touches.

My only concern is the sealing of the doors against rain/blowing rain. Normal mailboxes have a door lip that surrounds the box lip and controls water intrusion. Even so, many people add a grid inside on the box bottom and tilt the box slightly down on the front so water tends to run right back out the door if it leaks in. On your doors, there are gaps around the edges and the smooth bottom of the steel tubing. The boxes will work great in the dry, but I'm just not sure about how they will protect mail during a rain storm.

Well first let me say Thanx. I did set the doors back a bit, but as far as rain goes.... I have not cut my grass yet one time this year due to the drought so I might not have put the thought into it as I should have. I was in a bit of a hurry to finish it thou. 2 weeks ago some kids set fire to our mailbox and a couple weeks before that someone made a home run with it.

I will put some thought in to rain proofing doors..... I guess I need to think like a rain drop.

I'm sure it will, but the main reason was to give us something decent, last my life time, and give my grandma next door something to look forward to when she goes and checks the mail.

VERY NICE

How many hours do you figure that you've put into it so far?

Um.... Not sure how many hours, but I can tell you it was a few 12 packs, bottle of whiskey, and a few sips of tequila...... and with blurred vision poof it became a cactus.....lol

Really thou I asked the wife what she thought how many full days I had in it and we agreed 5 give or take a day, but it was longer than that because it was a bit here and a bit there.

I like to do a little work sit back look at it, do a little more sit back drink on it, and do a little more then sleep on it. Anytime I rush anything it goes to crap, but I would say 5 days and had fun doing it.

awesome looking mailbox! Around here, the mailman would leave a note saying he would not deliver since it is not an approved USPS mailbox... perhaps you have a nice mailman and no worries...
