You're getting lucky with the movers. It's been my experience that they're the biggest bunch of crooks. My wife got taken for over $2,000 by a moving company. She got a written estimate from them for $2500, but when pay up time came the cost was $4500 (Additional charges for packaging).
She pulled out her contract and showed them that the blanketing and boxing was in their scope (the contract explained the type of packaging used etc. and it was "included" in the quote). They wouldn't unload her stuff until they got paid.
She had no choice at the time, but to pay them and take it up with the moving company rep. Turns out the rep. was actually a broker (another word for a front man) and was "not responsible" for the acts of the mover. She also had a number of broken items that got her a whopping reimbursement of 0.60 cents a pound.
She tried repeatedly to get the BBB to help, but apparently they have no swing, all they can do is "file it". You can take them to small claims court, but it has to be in the jurisdiction of where the contract was written, which means you have to travel to and from that location. (Who has time for that inconvenience?)
Some of these moving companies run a racket, they know you have limited options. If they get a bad name, the front man mearly changes the name of his agency so it doesn't show up on a BBB query. I'm not a big fan of government regulation, but there ought to be some oversight of the moving industry, it's far too easy to get cheated. Heck, they could sell your entire truckload of belongings and only have to pay you .60 cents per pound.
I'm glad you're having better success, that ordeal left me with a sour taste.
