After what seemed like an eternity since my venerable '94 GMC Suburban bit the dust, I finally found my replacement tow rig. It's a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 w/5.9l Cummins, four speed auto, crew cab, short box, 150,000 mi., originally a California vehicle. I looked underneath and I can't even find any surface rust on the springs or chassis!
I called the dealer on my day off, explaining what I was looking for, and how hard they are to find in my area, to which he replied, "Oh, we have one on the lift right now. We just got it in and we're doing the service on it before we list it." I told him to put a hold on it, as I live 135 miles away and am very interested in seeing it in person. My wife and I made the trek to the city, gave the truck the once over, drove it, and found out the AC was not working. I mentioned this to the dealer, who said, "Like I mentioned on the phone, we just got it in and haven't even driven it yet. Give me an hour, and I'll have it running." Seems it just needed a back flush and refill, as it will now produce an arctic blast like it should.
I was initially looking for a 6 speed stick, but this truck was priced right, and so clean, and drove so smoothly, I succumbed to my gut feelings and bought it on the spot.
And... Oh, what power!
