TC29D 2001
My greetings to you all,

I found Tractorbynet by accident a couple of months ago. I began reading your discussions on Green, Orange and Blue with occasional forays into the other groups. The education I received has been invaluable. There were several "almosts" and the agonizing indecision several of you have eloquently stated gripped my decision making process.

I was unable to get on the discussion forums because I missed typing my birth year as 2005! The filters would not let me in! When I really would have liked your input it was not available. That is past.

For any one interested, here is the story of my new( to me)
Blue TC29DA, 7308 loader, Bush hog 600 Squealer, and Bush Hog blade. 55 hoursTT. 2001 year model. 4WD with supersteer.

The package was purchased for $11,000 as is where was. It had initially run but quit after about .5 hrs while loading some RR ties graciously given to me by the former owner. Initially the price was $13500 but was renegotiated when it suddenly quit. After a week of research I got up the courage to bleed the fuel. The filter was NASTY. But it finally started to run.

While getting it running I had to locate a trailer. The first one was 16' with no brakes. I got cold feet at towing that much weight with my Tundra. Luckily I ran into an excellent buy of an 18' with brakes.

Took the tractor to a dealer near my home. He completed the first 50 hour inspection and put methanol in the tires. Brought it home last Saturday. Here I was about to try my new toy! Drove it about 200 yds and it started spewing hydraulic fluid from the filter. Today the dealer came out and replaced the filter which had a damaged "O" ring. I am about to go out and try it out.

Report to follow.

Intended use. I have 2.5 acres. One is basically wild flowers and native trees. 1/2 acre is house and buildings. One acre is yard and garden. My wife and I are using organic methods and are going to work towards a multi use truck farm. I probably could get by admirably with a smaller rig. However you never have enough dogs, ammo and, I suspect ,horse power.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and getting the benefit of your collective expertise.

PS Got a AgMeir Post hole digger and 3 augers for $250 from another source. Also a set of bolt on forks for $100. How am I doing so far? everything looks near new.

Welcome to Tractorbynet, and with deals like that, I think I'll let you do my shopping and negotiating the next time I buy a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif That sounds like a great deal you got. Now you just need a 62" Bush Hog tiller and you'll have almost exactly what a cousin of mine has. Of course he bought his new (I can't remember for sure whether it's a 2000 or 2001 - think a 2000 model) and he paid over $21,000. And of course while I really liked my Bush Hog tiller, there are other cheaper brands that I feel reasonably sure are just as good.

Thanks for the reply

Well the sudden stop ( later found due to crud, water etc) really threw me for awhile. Where do you get yours serviced?
We are both in North Texas apparently.

I will later be full of questioning about methodology here in the limestone west of Ft Worth.

I just came in from doing a bit of mowing. Works great!

Can't believe anyone would pay that much for a CUT and abuse it like that within the 1st 50 hrs! Some people shouldn't be allowed to own a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Atleast it got you a better deal. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hope the negative aspects have not soured your love for your Boomer... it's not her fault, oh have you named her yet?

Have fun,
Ken

Well I really don't think you got a good deal on it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think you stole it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Other than the original problems yes I think you stole it. That rig should go for around 20K.

Congratulations and welcome to TBN. If you get time go back and fill in your profile so we all know of your whereabouts. That way also when some reports a stolen TC29DA we know where it is.

Congrat's, that's one heck of a deal.

You may want to completely drain and flush the fuel tank and line, just so you don't keep having the same problems. I haven't had to change my filter even once in 4 years and have virtually no sediment in the bowl, but believe I've always gotten good fuel. Unless you are using a large amount, your best bet may be your local gas station. As diesel car and truck owners can't contend with bad fuel, these suppliers take reasonable care of their fuel and it gets pretty well cycled - doesn't sit for too long. I think if you flush it, and then refill with clean fuel, you troubles will be gone forever, assuming you use a good source in the future.

By the way, you may want to ask the prior owner who he got his fuel from, and how he (the owner) stored it after this.

Thanks for the good wishes and encouragement. So far I have been using it mostly to hold and haul some old lumber I brought out from my old house in town. It is a mish-mash of used dtuff perfect for compost bins and the like that are on the to do list. Tomorrow I am going to pick up about 25 RR ties a friend is giving me. I neglected to mention that I am using a set of bolt on forks to handle the lumber. I suspect the RR ties will be a horse of a different color. I am going to initially limit myself to two in order not to overgross the FEL.
I am still learning where the corners are and going slowly.

The wild flowers have another week or two then I can start putting the bush hog thru its paces.

Made points with ethe wife by filling some containers she is going to use for container gardening.

Eventually I will post some pics. Meanwhile use your imagination!!

Another unrelated question. Does anybody know anything about Case 448's? I have one with a 3 point and a tiller which willbe just right for our current 40x40 garden. However it wwon't modivate. Runs great. I suspect a hydraulic pump issue. Any guidence would be appreciated.

By the way a dealer tells me my 2001 is not a DA. Says that they were not made until 2003. He tells me it it is a TC29D. It has supersteer, cruse control, 4WD etc. Any thoughts??

I'd expect the 7308 to be able to easily handle 4 ties and probably handle 6 most of the time. You will have to keep the load close to the bucket and curl the bucket as much as possible. You don't have to go very far out on forks to find out how much power your loader doesn't have. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Your 2001 tractor is a "D" model instead of the "DA" as your dealer stated. The DA is similar, but has been beefed up slightly to handle the 14LA or 15LA loader. You can no longer get the 7308 loader on a Class II Boomer. It only comes new on the TC30, economy tractor.

It's been a slack year for wildflowers at my place. Txdon posted some gorgeous pictures of his wildflowers in Lee County in the photos section. He's had lots more rain than us. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

With the exception of a few bluebonnets early on, my wildflowers have been a poor crop due to the dry conditions. I'll be mowing some areas this weekend.

Welcome to TBN, Dave. Maybe we'll see you one of these days at one of our North Texas TBNer get-togethers. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
