I completed my wood drying kiln last summer and I have finally got around to putting up the board and batten siding. I am doing a few videos to document the process.
I am using Red Oak 1x6 for the boards and small cheap store bought pine 1x2 for the battens. THE BEST SIDING FOR YOUR BARN,CABIN AND WORKSHOP, BOARD AND BATTEN - YouTube
/ Finally I have started to put siding on my Lumber Kiln
I'd disagree board and batten is "the best" siding method, although it is a common method of siding.
Unless you get down and pump the gap at the bottom between the boards, over which the batten lays, full of caulk, you're creating a great hiding place for bugs to crawl up that gap between the boards...over wintering all kinds of them, and giving dirt daubers the best place in the world to build mud nests.
I prefer a taper cut, horizontal lap siding.....much tighter seal on the boards against bugs and air. A band mill is THE saw for cutting tapered lap siding. Simply cut the log down to a cant however wide you want the siding ( I use 8" with 6" exposed on the siding), and 'cock/uncock' the cant with couple 3/4" plywood shims with each pass of the saw.
I use it on everything from wood sheds to chicken coops to my shop.
