PowerTrac 1850, Kubota RTV x900
at 7:30 AM this morning my tractor and toys arrived... The dumby who loaded the truck put the forks behind the tractor, so we had to drag those off, but it started right up and off the back it went. Drove it around to pick up implements and the steering went out. I could spin the wheel and nothing. I nearly filled my shorts as I was blocking the road with the tractor, and unable to turn from going in the ravine or up the hill... After about two minutes of anxious moments, my BIL pulled the steering wheel off the spindle. Whatever cotter key was in there had broken off...

First note of weirdness. Look at the difference in tires from the front and rear. This is a used tractor, so I expect this kind of stuff. I just hope it does not hurt the pumps...

Here are some beauty shots. I have lots of notes, lots of things to figure out. In no particular order.

First., the tractor is KILLER. It is strong, and it holds the slopes, and everything works... But, I can only say I want it better... Here is a long list of notes...

All my implements, except for the mower and box blade (Woods BH72) came from Lackender Fabrication. All of them are amazing.. All of them may be too much for this PT. I am still figuring that out.. I have to say that the PT 's lifting ability BLOWS on this tractor. Maybe there is something wrong, but with the pallet forks, we could not lift the bucket, grapple and four tires pallet off the truck. Granted, that was probably around 1200lbs, but still... This is a 65HP tractor. I think if the cylinders ever go I will put bigger, badder cylinders on...

Going backwards gives me whiplash. But going forwards is smooth. I am not sure if this is indicative of a bad valve, or if it is just PT's natrure.

Man, I really, really dislike the lift controls. They are WAY too sensitive... Anyway to tune those down a bit?

I need to take a picture of this, but I think PT is now making the rear screen entirely different. You guys all have wide mesh that matches the sides. My rear is very narrow. Maybe this is something the previous owner did. I do not know...

The backhoe is not particularly easy with 8 tires. I will have to try it with 4 when I go to blade the road...

I am seeing if I have any oil leaks. I may... In the engine compartment. Not sure if it is just slop from some other time or if there is a genuine leak...

Oh, I need a BRO. My manboobs are killing me... Where the heck are the shocks.

OH, and the seat is broken. The Tilt thingy is always on. It is kinda cool, kinda disconcerting...

Anyway. Enough for today.. I am sure there will be more tomorrow

If I remember right, the 1850 has the same lift capacity as the 1430. I think where they put that horse power to work is to that big mower and moving the tractor around on steep hills. Seeing that the loader is more than fast enough, I've also wondered if one could use bigger lift cylinders to increase lift capacity and at the same time slowing the loader some.

Hey! Congratulations!!! :)

I would say that you would want all the tires to be the same diameter. As for the other issues.... work them out one at a time. Don't be too frustrated with your used machine.

Get the leaks fixed, first. Then check the forward/reverse functions to get them working smoothly for safety. Then work on the lift weakness. You should be able to lift those items with ease. There is no suspension, so get a suspension seat if the ride is too rough.

The lift capacity is rated at 1200 lb. I've never tested it with known weights on the 1845, but I think that is pretty close. I think everyone has been a bit put off by the suddenness of reverse and the joystick controls at first. I've gotten used to them and no longer notice. I do slow the engine down when I want to move things more slowly, but I didn't find any modification needed.
You have a little more rear weight than I do, so you probably can put bigger cylinders on and lift more without picking up the back, but I don't know what led to selection of the lift limit. You'll want to do some checking of what might break.

Woodlandfarms, The sensitivity of the lift arms can be regulated by putting restrictors in line, which is a disk with a hole in it . They come in various sizes, or adj valves in line. The valves have to be high pressure. If you are gentle with the joystick, I think you will be satisfied later on.

As far as the reverse goes, most people do not use the left foot for driving, so in reversing, the left foot pressure is something learned. Go easy.
