It's nothing fancy but it does the job, mainly I wanted to try out the camera.

Two 3" PVC couplings at the bottom I glued a 1/2" piece of 3" pipe to keep the extuinguisher from falling through also it doesn't hold water or dirt. Next job is to attach a lenght 10" to 14" of 4" PVC fencepost with a cap to hold tools. As you've probably guessed I can"t weld.

Good idea, looks nice. I just mounted the extinguisher bracket on the Case ROPS w/ HD tye wraps, it sits on the base of the ROPS. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dont need to weld if it works /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Mine is just a piece of flat bar bolted to my triangle holder and the the bracket mounts to that. It was to close to the base of the rops to just bolt it on. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Guy,

Great idea... But there may be a problem.....

Many years ago I had the Coast Guard do a safety inspection on my boat. The only problem they found was the way the fire extinguishers were mounted. They claimed if they were mounted vertically they would tend to "pack" all of the solids on the bottom of the tank due to the constant pounding and possibly not discharge properly. They recommended mounting the extinguisher horizontally. Since the boat (and the tractor) will tend to keep the solids less packed due to the rolling effect of the boat. Just a thought... hope this is of some help.

I like the idea of mounting an extinguisher, I think I will be doing the same.

Very valid point Gary. I've got into the habit of tilting my extinguishers back and forth a couple of times until I am sure I can feel the contents moving from end to end. You can feel the weight transfer. However a horizontal mount would automatically do that for you.

Gary, In all my years of working construction I've never seen an extinguisher mounted horizontally. In a way his theory may make sense but I suspect it may have been a situation where your boat checked out and the inspector just had to find something wrong to comment on. For years before getting a final inspection done by a building inspector I would deliberately leave one or two obvious items undone to give the inspector something to find wrong. It made him happy finding a mistake and usually stopped him from tearing the job apart until he did find something wrong.

Guy,

The inspector was one that was invited to our marina in Florida. I knew him. Don't think he was looking for a problem.

I know what you mean about finding a problem... when I was involved in racing we used to call it "throwing them a bone" .... Give them a problem to find and they will leave you alone. Or stop looking for the real problem!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I don't think this was the case with this Coast Guard inspector, but he might have overstated the problem. Never the less, it did make sense. Since then I have always mounted them horizontally. Just thought I would pass it along. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

But I will be following your lead and mounting a fire extinguisher as soon as the weather warms up a bit Thanks for the idea!!!!!

Dave,

I used to check the ones on my boat and did find they were never "packed" once I mounted them horizontally. I am a believer .... I have to believe the same will hold true for an extinguisher mounted on a tractor. Now I just need to mount one!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Interesting thought about mounting horoz. Somehow I suspect I get the tractor bouncing up and down enough to make a Martini, never mind keeping extinguisher powder agitated /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have fired off plenty of units at the end of a job when they hung on the wall for a year, they discharged /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
