I have a 50x100 metal building in which a pick-up caught on fire and was destroyed. The fire was contained to the truck but the building and contents suffered heat and smoke damage. The building has the vinyl backed insulation which is typically used in metal buildings. Some of the smoke/soot got into the insulation. The smoke/soot is quite corrosive to the steel structure of the building (it has caused rust). Does anyone have knowledge/experience in just how corrosive this might be? Will the metal panels actually rust through in time or will it just become etched. Must I strip it all out and start over? What will happen if I do not strip out the old insulation?
