What is seasoned split firewood bringing in your area. I just bought some yesterday for $80. I have not bought any for a few years because my BIL bought a place that had a lot of dead trees on it so He kept me in wood for the last 3 years. We don't burn alot of wood we only use it in our fire place so it is not our main source of heat. $80 seemed kind of high to me but that was the price I got from 2 ads in the paper. I was thinking the last I bought was around $50.

Hi

The last time we got some here in fla.

At our old house about 4 yrs ago and we would get a pickup bed 8'x4'
full about 1' over the top for like $50 to $75.

Our new house dose not have a fire place in it but I wished we would of installed on as we were building.

Ron.

In the paper here in central Texas, seasoned oak firewood is advertised at $125 for a half cord and $225 a cord. (A cord = 4ft. X 4ft. X 8ft. even in Texas):D

Was that $80 for a (full) cord? Around here people are getting $125 to $150 per cord, delivered.

Apparently, Kentucky must be the only place on earth that measures wood by the RICK. That's 1/2 a cord, or a stack 4' tall, 8' long, and 2' wide. This isn't exactly the high rent district here in rural central Kentucky. You can get wood deleiverd and stacked for as low as $50 a rick. It's not uncommon to find it for $35 or $40 if you haul it yourself. Some of the more affluent neighborhoods, you'll find people paying $75 to $100 a rick delivered and stacked. My neighbors son is selling wood to buy his first car. Seasoned ash, oak, and some hickory, $35 a rick, you haul.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but has anyone seen a pallet or rack or something that works well for storing firewood?

I am thinking of taking some pallets with the 2X4 all the way to the outer edge, and nailing on some side boards and a board across the top then stacking the firewood in that.

That way I can take the wheelie monster (Bobcat) and move the wood around as needed.

Anyone seen any better ways of handling that? I just hate the thought of handling it all by hand multiple times.

I am not sure how much wood is in a cord. What I was priced was a 8 ft pickup bed loaded even with the sides. Delivery was more. I am happy with the fact it is good seasoned hard wood and is burning very well in my fireplace. Some wood I have bought in the past is green and I refuse to burn it in my fireplace. It just seems to smolder and fill the house with smoke, besides being a chimney fire hazzard.

That would be just about or just under a under a half of a cord. Depending on how it was loaded. A cord is 8' X 4' X 4' with little air space. In other words, properly stacked.

I couldn't GIVE AWAY seasoned and split Oak Firewood in Oakland CA last year.

As we speak, the Bay Area Air Quality Management Board is holding hearing to decide whether to Ban all Fire Place Burning in the 9 Bay Area Counties.

We have lots of Oaks on the property and I would harvest wood from any blown over. A few years ago, we had gust to 90 mph that did in a number of heritage Oaks.

I work at a Hospital and posted on the Employee bulletin board. All of the responses I received were warnings about wood burning as a cause of air pollution and global warming.

Thruston County Washington had a no burn ban last week. The ban only allows wood burning for homes without any other source of heat.???

I guess if I would have read the replies a little closer I would have known what a cord of wood was.
