( Have you ever run a Network Attached Storage box before? I am hoping that by running our parts system file sharing off of there i can buy less server licences. )
I have never run an NAS box, but you could easily put together a Linux box running as an SMB file server, and a couple of large hard drives. An old Pentium III with a network card, and a 100GB hard drive or two would be ideal. If the data is critical, you could even do software RAID on the server.
