Although not great for heat, it does give the room a certain "something" that took me back to my childhood staying over my aunt's house when we would huddle by the fireplace to watch it and hear the crackle and pop.

Not too bad for cuddling up with the wife as well:D

Good Evenin Joe,
Im another fireplace fan, although the one in my Ct home has an enclosed propane log set insert ! ;) Nothing like the crackle of the fire on a cold night ! :) Thanks for the pic, the cats enjoying it too !

Another fan of fireplaces. Nice picture too.

If you throw a really small piece of copper in there it'll make the flames green and blue. Fun to watch too.

We really enjoy our fireplace too. We seem to get lots of heat from ours and especially if we run the ceiling fan backwards to push heat away from the loft ceiling. The metal fireplace screen gets very hot and the arm of the sofa is very warm. It's not efficient heat, but it sure knocks the chill out of the room.

I didnt know we were supposed to post pics too ;)

Anyways heres mine, with the gas insert ! Oh well, if I need to smell real wood I just go down to the woodstove in the basement ! :)

BTW we are between Thanksgiving decorations and Christmas, so that explains the bare mantel !

some great pics in here.....

some of my fondest memories are of going out to my great-grandma's/pa's house during Christmas time.....they always had a real (scraggly) tree and we'd pop popcorn and string it on their huge old stone fire place.....going to their house was about like going back in time to the 1800's....even though grandpa had a good job, they live very primitive.

so, in thinking about building our new home, i really want a real stone fire place in our main living area.......not for the heat, necessarily, but for the cozy feeling you get.....it would only be lit on weekends or special occasions..........then, i'm thinking about some sort of wood burner in the basement.........

thanks for the pics, love to see 'em!

scott vt: can you load wood in to that from the outside?
