How in the heck can you not run your tractor hard for the first 50 hours? I mean for the first few hours I was toying around and testing stuff, but after that I had work to do. I have been digging holes with the backhoe and moving stone, dirt, and mulch with the loader. It is a BX24 and I guess what I'm asking is; what constitutes working it "too hard" I now have 30 hours on it, done the greasings and monitored the fluids...am I supposed to be doing anything else or am I causing it any damage. I run the tranny in "high" mode most of the time and the rpm's around 32-3300. Is this ok? Thanks, in advance.

Use it and do the recommened service. You won't hurt it.

Don't worry about running your BX24 too hard. To begin with, diesel engines do not turn as fast as gas engines do; in fact, they are are designed to run at top RPM.

However, one of the most important things that you MUST do is change all the oils after the first 50 hours of use. That ensures much longer tractor life by removing the metallic and other debris that is normally created during the break-in period.

I asked my dealer the same question. His comment, 'work it as hard as you want, they shouldn't need to be broken in.' It's under warranty and that's where you find out if there is a problem. Better to have it appear now than after the warranty expires.

Work it hard! Then change the fluids. :)

Run it hard after a few hours and then! I have heard over and over the best thing you can do to a diesel is run it hard. When I bought my diesel truck my dealer said after a few hundred miles pound it hard! Make it use oil! Pull heavy loads! That's how the rings get seated the best. I pounded mine real hard right away cause I had to plow lots of heavy snow. It only has 235 hr. on but does not use any oil and yours won't neither.

Well I dont know where it says to run a desiel hard thats sort of a contradiction on what desiels are designed to work at. Low RPMs and high torque is what most are set up for. I am currently working in Iraq and its a huge difference in using US spec equipment vs Middle east (most German) equipment. I deal with sub contract truckdrivers and several companies have 30yr Mercedes trucks as thier standard fleet pulling loads of 60 to 80 tons vs US equipment brought over here that struggles to move 40tons. Most modern machinery the tolerances are so close now breakin is really pretty short now. I have a L3400 and I took my time on it, did all the fluid changes at the 50hr mark and change the oil every 25hrs. I use JP-8 in it and just add 1oz of ATF for every 8 gallons. over here we add 2 gallons of ATF for every 500gallons when we fill up the tanks. So far we get about 24,000 to 28,000 hours on the fuel pumps before they fail thats about all you can ask for on a fuel pump. The Cummins engines so far are doing the best we have some now that been runing for well over 3yrs now non stop except for service. But we are expecting them and the Cats to start failing sometime latter on next year.

I think the paramaters of breaking in would be 1) avoid extreme RPM 2) avoid lugging, esp on a diesel 3) Avoid numeruious cold starts on small tasks where the engine doesn't properly warm up. Make it at least a few hours for each task, longer the better 4) always warm up at least 10 min. (good practice anyway) 4) Allow the engine to idle a while before shutting off esp. after sustained working 5) Work it as you would your regular tasks. I like to do a variety of tasks ie brush hogging, going up & down hills (for back pressure of rings against the cyl. walls) My main advise is not to sissy around, work it and don't exceed the recommended oil change good luck, bb

My dealer told me to rap it out from the get go. A diesel engine is made to be rapped out hard;)

I got my B7800 stuck in a deep rut the first day I owned it so I had no choice but to pump up the RPM's. Thereafter I had big rocks and logs to move around so I had it up at 2000 to 2500 RMP's a few times.

I was concerned that I had abused it but when I had my 50 hour service done there were 4 tiny metal filings in the hydro fluid screen filter and the fluid looked brand new.
