First Calf of the Season

[Soggy Bottom Outdoors]

First calf of the season born 2/7/14 on one of the coldest days of the the year. Bull (steer) a little off the normal calving schedule, but it was out of a bunch of recently purchased cows that had been running with a bull. Momma cow is what we call "a square headed angus." First one we've had marked up with a "mask" feature.

He should be fine the neighbor down the road had a calf in late Nov and is doing fine.he stayed out in cold all Winter.

Two of the last seven nights have been in the single digits, but no wind. She moved him to a dry hay pile pretty quick.The old cow keeps him dried off well.

That would be a great 4H or similar show calf!, should do good at the sale barn too!

That's one nice looking calf for 7 days old. I'd keep that dude around for some future breeding.
