We have gotten one of our first frosts up here in Canada.

I have a new (45 hours on it now) MF 1547.

The problem was this morning when there was still frost on the ground, the tractor started right up and after 5 minutes of warm up I tried to move it but it kept stalling.

I figured out that it was the seat safety switch and bypassed it to move the tractor. When it started to warm up to above freezing outside I reconnected the seat switch and everything worked fine.

The question is will this be a ongoing event? When it gets really cold up here will I have to disable the seat safety switch every time?

Thanks,

Ivan

your switch might be freezing, look and see if it has lube or a rubber bushing or who knows. You will be surprised what you find. My four wheeler winch did the same thing and when i pulled it apart it was wet in the switch on the handle bar. dried it out and it has worked fine for years.

Come to think of it, we use to take the brand new Chevy starter for 6.2 diesels apart before putting them in, and just wipe off the oil and grease. If we didn't and the temp dropped below -20 degrees F they would Stick and we would have to drag the vehicle in and warm it up and everything would be fine until the vehicle sat outside all night.

Exactly,.. seeing as you have a ROPS tractor, the first thing I would check is moisture in or around the switch. An easy way to test this is, first thing in the morning bypass the seat switch to see if the problem is still the same or fixes itself.

You buy your tractor from Selmac?

I will try to look at it soon, thanks for the responses.

I normally park it inside, but I was cleaning out the quonset and had to keep it outside for the night. It just happened that the frost was bad on Saturday morning.

Yes, I did buy the tractor from Selmac in July. Almost ready for the first 50 hour service.

The first time my seat switch crapped out was on a cold morning and I was about to blow some snow. I temporarily bypassed the switch until I could replace it. The following winter the same thing happened. Now the bypass has become what we refer to as "temporarily permanent".

The day we picked up our 1523 from the dealer, we had to do the same thing. Cold frosty day in late March. Once it dried up it was fine. We eventually disabled it, don't need it happening during the winter.

Remove the switch and place it in a zip lock baggy, then reinstall it. That will keep the moisture off. However, if the seat cushion freezes solid, then the baggy won't help much.
