Massey GC1710
I'm always one to buy used; cars, houses, boats, camper, etc. This tractor is the first significant item I've ever bought new. I'm looking forward to doing more work with it, then work to it! I used the MF $500 instant rebate and got a great deal on a Woods Rotary Cutter (RC4) ($550), I also negotiated the thumb, and the service manual as part of the total deal. I have a Bush Hog Grader Box (SBX48) on order, the BXpaned piranha blade arriving tomorrow, and a 3 point drawbar/receiver on its way from eBay. I filled the rear tires with "beet juice" aka rimguard, (each tire weighed 130lbs afterwards).

I have 17 hours on it already, mostly with the hoe and pulling trees. This thing is a beast and I couldn't be happier.

Only issue thus far (and it was an easy fix), about 30% of the zerks on the hoe and FEL were less than finger tight....quick fix and notified the dealer they may want to pass that on to Massey...sounds like an assembly step being missed..

I also let a big root get in my front wheel and rip my valve stem off.....this tractor is going to be living in the woods so I may just weld up the valvestem holes and put them on the inside of the wheels....the way they should be.

I am thinking of putting some led bar lights tucked under the ROPS, I already removed the flashers/taillights as I about ripped them off several times in tight situations. Figure I'll plow snow with the FEL and grader box attached and some extra lights won't hurt if I'm plowing before sunrise.

Congratulations! I think we've all been at that point when we say "Why didn't I get this tractor sooner?" They are great machines.

Congrats and welcome to TBN & the forum. Although, based upon that first pic - you are a bit younger & smaller than I thought you might be.

Hey - enjoy that brand new tractor & BE SAFE.

Way to start out a thread. . that small driver will grow right along with the tractor"s use and he'll be running it when he's 25 lol.

And you already started out with pictures of the new unit without being reminded :)

Many things in life are smart to acquire after someone else has already paid the depreciation on it. But tractors like your gc1710 don't depreciate much at all . . . So buying new was smart.

17 hours is just the start of hours used and smiles produced.

GC1710,

I re-read your opening post and it appears like you have a 3 pt cutter rather than a mmm. It also sounds like you will be in the woods often. BroTek makes a rear underpin and also a mid-center underpin protectors for the undersides of your unit if you think you might have branches and roots reaching out harm your underside.

Also regarding valve stem protection. . . . What about either finding or making wheel covers that would protect the valve stems more rather than trying to relocate them ? Maybe something from decorative golf carts etc. Even like old "baby moon hub caps" :)

I'm running a GC1715. Like you, I have it in the woods doing work. Twice now, I've bent the hydraulic filter guard underneath the tractor. That guard isn't the best. After brush mowing last week in the woods, I came back to the shop with a hydraulic leak. It isn't leaking a lot, but it's leaking. I think it's coming from the filter itself. An underbody guard might be my next purchase for my tractor.
