I was a bit surprised when the "regen in progress" light came on in my NX5010C at just under 25 hours. I was expecting a regen at 40 - 60 hours based on posts here and dealer input. I was grappling at 1500 rpm and boosted it to 1800 rpm since the label in the cab says to increase speed to over 1700 rpm. I was just about done for the day and parked it running at 1800 rpm. The regen completed in about 20 minutes. I assume the reason for the early regen is that I have been babying it for the break-in period and the exhaust has not been hot enough to burn off the soot.

Anybody else have this experience?

I think everyone's experience is going to be slightly different. Operating temp, engine RPM, your use, etc. I think would affect the regen. I wouldn't worry about it.

FYI, I've not had a forced regen. All of mine have been auto regens while I've been cutting grass or something similar. However, I tend to operate it at least 2K rpm for extended periods of time.

I assume that this was an auto-regen as it occurred while I was working the tractor with no interaction by me (other than increasing the throttle a bit).

Purchased my NX4510 HSTC new last November, and had first regen at 9 hours! That occurred on the day the tractor was delivered (I put on 3 of those hours testing tractor in dealer yard). Since then, all the regens have been auto except for one. Overall, I would guess they occur in the 30 - 40 hour range since initial delivery. Now I am at 240 hours. I do notice a very small drop in power during regen, but not enough to affect the work I am doing. While I am using tractor, I am almost always running at 2000 rpm or higher. The Tier IV engines were one of my biggest fears buying a new tractor from some of the horror stories on this site. I don't see them as a big deal now. So far so good!!

Pay attention to the regen symbol when it comes on. The auto regen and manual regen symbol as similar looking, at least to my old eyes. The process for auto is simple, just keep working with higher rpm's. The other one requires you to park tractor and let it do its thing. The rpm's go up and down while it is doing it on it's own. I think my son may have shut tractor down while it was trying to auto regen. When the auto regen comes on, I just try to keep working until it is done, usually around 20 minutes.

Thanks for the tip. I need to look at the manual again for the different symbols!

A flashing regen light means that you need to stop what you are doing. Put the tractor in neutral. Lock the brake pedal. Put the throttle lever back down to idle. Hit the Regen button. The tractor will rev up to about 1600, then 2600, back to 1600 and return to an idle. The time can be anywhere from 20 - 40 minutes for a complete regeneration cycle. I have seen mine take that long.

My experience also with my Kubota. Now with 395 hours on it, I don't pay any attention to it because it happens automatically and the tractor doesn't act any differently other than the regen light on the dash comes on. After 10-15 minutes the light goes out. I used the tractor for about an hour yesterday and was thinking to myself that I couldn't remember when I saw the regen light last. Just a non-issue, really.

Since I bought the Kubota I've had to go through one regeneration cycle where I was not actually working the tractor and that was because the regen light came on as I was pulling back into the barn to park it for the day. I increased the rpms to 2000, parked the tractor and went to take care of a couple other chores and when I came back 20 minutes later the regen light was off so I shut the tractor down.

Thing is...my old John Deere is parked under the roof of a shed that is open on 3 sides. When I fire it up I try to hold my breath until I am out from under the shed, the fumes are so bad. Don't even want to think about what those fumes are doing to my old lungs. No such problem with the Kubota.

My 4510 has a sticker in the cab on the left hand post showing the 2 symbols and what to do with each. Neither regen symbol flashes on mine (2016 bought in Canada)

Maybe there are differences btwn the different years. I have 2 different regen symbols. Both very similar looking. One indicates auto regen ( keep going and keep rpms up) and the other tells me to stop, park and let system do its thing. Neither symbol will flash ( or at least they never have). I have just followed instructions for each symbol. Read manual carefully i guess.
