Mahindra 4035
I've got a Mahindra 4035 4x4 coming up on 50 hours. The dealer said to change the oil the first time at 50 hours, the owner's manual says 100. Was the dealer just trying to get a little money out of me early? I was planning on changing the oil myself regardless. It still looks pretty clean. What say the masses? Be gentle, this is my first tractor to own.

First oil change is one of the most important. All tractors I have owned new have recommended this first change at 50 hours. It certainly would not hurt.....

Does the manual say to change the oil at 100 hours or does it say to make the first oil change at 100 hours? It's normal practice to make the first oil change much sooner than subsequent changes, but manuals don't often differentiate.

If I remember correctly, it says the first oil change at 100 hrs. I talked to the dealer who looked it up, he said to go with what the manual says for that model, he was used to prior years and models. Wanted a non dealer answer (from the forum) before I called him... lol. Turns out he is pretty honest.

Changing the oil early isn't going to hurt anything. Anything that's going to break free (metal shavings, etc) will have done so by 50 hours.

tjus77. go with oil and filter change at 50 hours. I think that is typical recommendation for new tractors. As mentioned previously, it is the most important one. I have found errors in the Mahindra operator's manual for my 5035. Manual says change fuel filter every 500 hours in one place and every 200 hours in another. Just understand that nobody at Mahindra reads their own manuals.

I go along with the 50hrs votes for the same reason as GManBart. On my present tractor (and the only new one I have ever had) I changed oils and filters at 50, 100, 250 and every subsequent 250. Oil is now very expensive, but coming up to 2500 hrs without any mechanical problems, I am happy I did and do. I put in over 1000hrs of heavy work in its first year to get the place into shape.
