I am doing some similar things (under projects see Al B's house rework) and bought a Ford 555C 4wd for some of the clearing digging etc. $14k
For me it is the right choice.
I would hate to get out of a seat to move the hoe every time like you would to safely do it on a tractor model.
In my mind, there is no comparison between the capabilities of a hoe hanging off the back of a CUT and my 555.
Of course I have the burn for a SS again, sold my little Bob when I bought my hoe Lil....
Was sitting in two last night, $4K for one and $5.5K for the other, and man where they rough (as in so rough I won't own them)
The SS can outwork the hoe on some issues, and the hoe can outwork the SS in some issues, for what you are saying and looking at though, I think the hoe will do more for you then the SS, especially when it comes time to build.
