Hi,
I looking at small tractors to take care of my land in S. AZ, and the dirt road I live on.

So far, I've done a lot of research, but am leaning towards Montana primarily because there is a dealer in Benson (Economy Sales And Rentals) Arizona, about 20 minutes from me.

Gary, from that store is the only dealer to respond to my questions and has proven to be very helpful. I'm really impressed with his helpfulness, and that gives Montana a major edge over Massey and Mahindra, the two next closest dealers at about 2 and 4 hours distance respectively. So, the questions I'd like to put out there:

The tractor will be used to drag a box blade, light loader work, and eventually a small brushhog for some of my property. The primary use will be recovering from Monsoon storm damage, keeping up the kid's MX track, and maintaining the 5 acres.

I looked at the tractor while the dealer was closed, and it looks really well made. Gary quoted me an asking price of 16,395 for the tractor, loader, and box blade together (about 600 under retail for tractor and loader alone based on my research, so including the box blade, I'm figuring it's about 1200 off retail). Seemed fair to me, and I know the man's got to make a living, any thoughts?

Any thoughts on the 2334? It seems to be a great trade off between size and ability. Anybody have any firsthand experience with it?

Eric

Welcome to TBN, it is good to see more people from AZ. For price comparison I would call the Tractor Guy up here in Flagstaff just to get an idea. I could of swore that he had that same tractor parked at a feed store here and it had a banner that said "own this tractor for $14,999" I could be wrong but it would be worth the phone call. They have a toll free number at on their web site New and Used Tractors, Backhoes, Loaders from The Tractor Guy

I bought a 2734 with fel in March. Payed $14,625. )% for 36 months. I now have about 36 hours on it, Only problems so far, I cut a front tire(my fault) and the muffler has broken loose at the top and and the bottom. I could weld it but will probably let warranty take care of it this time.

Eric, I have a T2334 that I bought from a local dealer here in Springdale, AR (headquarters for Montana) and I have about 36 hours on it now. I think they price they quoted you is a little high. I paid $13,100 for tractor & FEL. I think this size tractor will work fine for what you want to do with it.
Mine is used to keep up my 5 acres (mowing, brushhoggin, landscaping, and boxblading a long gravel drive). Anything more would probably be overkill (except for maybe the 2734). Basically it's a rebranded TYM 233. No complaints so far. :)

Eric,

Keep in mind that there is no way that a dealer near you can sell at the same price a dealer in Arkansas, near Montana can. They will not have freight on the tractor and if they run to headquarters to pick them up as they sell them, they can get discounts for cash payment. Your local dealer willl have more invested in the tractor and will need to get more for if. Take that $13,100 quote, add the latest increase in price that the dealers saw, add to that what it would cost you to have the tractor shipped that far, and then see if YOUR dealer is in-line on price.

This is one of the reasons that I usually stay away from pricing threads. Also, keep in mind that prices change. The value of almost every form of currency in the world is gaining on the US dollar so prices are going to continue to rise. I don't see that trend changing any time soon.

Well regardless of how much dealers have to add on to make a profit... $16k is too high. For $15k I could have bought a nice B-Series Kubota (which isn't headquartered in Springdale AR).

A B-series kubota. Hmmm, add dual hydraulics, add skid-loader quick tatch on the loader, add diff. lock, I bet it would cost you WAY more than a montana. You're comparing apples to oranges.

You guys could go to every montana dealer in the whole state and I would bet that no 2 of them would give you the same price. Some dealers may have to pay higher shipping, some may have ordered the tractor at different times, from what I've gathered, prices are constantly changing. If you feel comfortable with The dealer, and trust him, then go with the tractor.
