Is it possible that the first quotes, from local dealerships salesmen are negotiable ?
For example if I were quoted 18,000 for a base tractor only, no accessories, then could one expect to pay 16,000 after some time has past ?
Im sure most dealership are independent with different results, but I didnt know if anyone has had experiencing the negotiation of the price and I dont mean through trades and attachments.
Any room for negotiation for a base tractor itself, w/o attachments or accessories ?

I think you should always try to negotiate. If the tractor is overpriced compared to the market you either need to successfully negotiate or walk away. However, if it looks like a better deal than anything else within 100 miles, they may already be at their bottom. Over time, if the tractor sits on the lot longer they will want to get rid of it more and will move on price. Also, if it sat on the lot a while and has signs of sitting (rust etc.) that should be part of the negotiation. The worst that can happen is you disagree with their price and you walk away.

The extreme example is a left over model that has been there a year and a half and they used it to plow snow in the winter, or used to move trailers around the lot etc. They will sell this as a new left over with a full warrantee from the date of sale. However, they will be willing to take a lot less money than the day it came on the lot. I got a good deal on a left over that was used to move trailers in a storage area. They slapped a new loader / bucket on it and sold it for thousands less than they would have the first day on the lot.

You should start with BUILD YOUR (KUBOTA) page of your brand's web site to determine MSRPs.. Be sure to include all the tractor options you are interested in. Tractor discounts off MSRP have been about 10% recently. Theoretical discounts from MSRP can vary considerably. There is a four to six week wait for most popular models now, so I would not expect discounts of more than 10%, perhaps less.

However, if you bundle you tractor and several implements together in one order the supplier sometimes provides supplemental promo support to dealers on bundled implements.

The other thing to look at is the financing. Often you can get 0% financing if you forego the discount. However that is the same as paying interest so you have to do the math to see what is a better deal.

Check on sales tax in Tennessee.

In Florida equipment used in agriculture and forestry work is sales tax free. Dealers do not always volunteer such information. I only had to sign a very simple declaration as a Florida resident to become tax exempt.

The first dealer I got a quote... as I'm walking out the door, he says, if you get a lower price please let me try and beat it. That rubbed me the wrong way... I got a much lower price and never went back to the first dealer. I don't negotiated. I either take your price or walk...

Side note: I really like that first dealer and now buy all supplies from him (even got a free hat from him).

Same deal with my Toyota, dealing locally, the salesman told us that the truck we wanted is 3 hours away @ XX price. We cold called that other dealer and his first price over the phone was cheaper than the local guy. We said that we'll take it and will be up there to get it...

Get another quote, one of the bigger sellers, sells out of state, (no tax). Barlow's Equipment.
