Kubota L35, Kioti DK50SE
This past weekend, the wife decided to learn how to operate the Kubota L35 backhoe. We have 20 acres that was clear cut 8 or so years ago. We've only been married for 3, and since she's in the AF, we're up in DC right now. Her son lives in the house, but doesn't do anything with the property, so we go down and try to keep the place from being overgrown. A few weeks ago we got a new Kioti to do bushhogging and she say's she'd like to try digging stumps. I'm cool with that, since it means we get twice as much done.

Showed her how to run the machine, and walked her through a small one. Then let her try her hand at one I knew will be a little more challenging. Took her about an hour, but she finally got it done. Say's she love's it and will do more! Here's a few pictures. 1 down 10,000 more to go!

Congrats! Popping that first stump is always nice. I was all smiles when I saw that first root ball hanging from my bucket.

Warning !!! My wife wanted to know how to bushhog, then how to use york rake, then the finish mower, then she got pretty good with the front end loader. Now when something needs done on the tractor if she is around she always says I can work on something else and she will run the tractor.

The trick was to let her use the old machine.! I get the new one!:D Told her this was like an estate, she has the castle and inter yard, outside the yard is the estate - my decisions! Then she gives that sweet look and says "we'll see". I figure it'll take her a few years before she's ready for bushhogging, but you never know. The next project is to give her an area where the barn will go and let her start digging stumps, bout 10. Should keep her busy the rest of the year.

Get her a mini-ex at least!!

LOL, that's my next plan! I figure after digging a few stumps and running into some tough ones, she'll be open to it. I might have to rent a big machine to show her what could be done!

Hehehe, that is what my next purchase will be. My backhoe's shortcoming really sank in the first time I dug on the slope of a pond and couldn't dump the bucket spoils out of the pond, but had to drag it out with the FEL bucket.
I want around a 6-8 ton machine.
hugs, Brandi
