Thought I'd share some of my art-work with you. My first time using my turning plow and 6' tiller and although it wore me out, I had a ball and was quite impressed with myself, not to mention my KD40.

The pics will show where I turned them, then it will show the results after tilling. My objectives were to learn how to use the implements, (setup, speed, etc.) and approximately how long it would take me. The large plot is exactly 1 acre. That gave me my reference, and that should decrease some now that I know a little more.

All the plots will be food plots for deer, turkey, dove, quail, and whatever else infiltrates.

The KD worked flawlessly. I was worried that it might not be strong enough to pull a dbl bladed plow. I got on here and asked about that and got a positive return. I have not broke the KD in yet so I didn't want to work it too hard, so I never operated over 2000rpm. In 4wd, it pulled it like a hot knife through butter. The tiller is supposed to work at 540rpm which requires 2600 on the 40. Like I said, I never exceeded 2000. You can see the results.

Actually, I forgot I only had room for 4 pics here, so here is only 2 of the plots.

That looks good. You are giving me Spring Fever seeing that fresh worked dirt.
Dave.

Ahhh, don't you know it. You should have been there to smell it! I love the smell of fresh turned dirt.

Looks great! I've never farmed but it does look like quite a work of art to see the area all freshly plowed and ready for planting.

Like I said, my first time. This ground hasn't been turned in a little more than 5 years. I was plenty nervous because I'd only seen a few videos, but once I got the blades set right, all I had to do was hold it straight (which isn't very easy to do) and let the tractor do the work. Hanging on while tilling is what I think wore me out. I found myself all tensed up. Once I figured that out, I started attempting to relax. It went much better after that. Boy did I have fun. Now I've got to till it again to kill weed seeds, then I get to use my spreader for fertilizer and seed. Can't wait!

Nice job on the straight furrows and the tilled soil looks nice and smooth. I am sure mother nature's beasts will be glad too :licking: but less concerned about how it looks. :)
It has been years, about 40, since I have turned land. Last time was on my dad's 8n. I miss that smell. I plan to do it again but it will be a few years before getting in a position where I can take the appropriate time/effort to do so. I was wondering though if any of you use an HST for turning land and how it performed.

Obviously I haven't but I 've read some posts on here and what I have gleaned from it was that hydrostats aren't so suitable for field farming. Some others will fill you in I'm sure, and that would be best because I have no idea.

I plowed and disced about 4 acres two years ago with my HST CK30. It worked great. Not once did I feel that I would have been better with gears. I used a single bottom plow and went deep. Used low range and max speed for that range at reasonably high RPM but not quite PTO speed.

It worked just fine. I loved the HST as always but especially when finishing the row and haing to get on the other side and lined up for the next pass. HST is great when you are working close to the fence line.
