Tractor
Ford 8N, Ford 340A
I have owned a Ford 8N for years, but recently purchased a Ford 340A. That is what is on the side of the tractor; however, the model number on the tag is CU314k, Serial number 0617302. Whadt do I have?

Thanks much.

Lonnie

:welcome: to TBN.
You should find the Model number, Unit number and Serial number STAMPED into the metal on the right hand side top of the transmission on the upper mounting boss. There is a flat spot and they will be stamped.

Maybe tractordata.com has info.

Once I determine exactly what I have, I want to get an owner's manual for it.

" I want to get an owner's manual for it. "
That would be wise purchase.

Take those tag numbers to (or call) your local Ford tractor dealer parts department.
They will tell you what tractor you have.

Also record the Unit Code which is the build date.

The following numbers are on the plate on the right side of the tractor in the approximate relative position. Nearest Ford dealer is about 30 miles away. Next time I'm through there, I'll stop and see what they say.

C617302
CU314k

My post didn't show the relative position of the numbers as I had typed them.

The latest date code would be the production date. 9 = 9th year of decade (1979) H = 8th month (August) 09 = 9th day B = 2nd shift
CU = 3000 Utility, 3 = 3rd generation, 1 = Diesel, 4 = Independent 540 PTO, K = 6X4 Manual Trans.
The other codes are read the same way for the component identified by the block in which they appear. The are all made in the same year.

My PTO on my 340A quit, and the rear hydraulics are very sluggish. I'm told the rear hydraulic pump is locked up. Is there a parts schematic that shows the pump and/or a Utube video on how to replace it?

Thanks
