I am considering buying a Kubota L3130 or a JD 4210. This will be my first tractor, but from everything I can tell, the Kubota stands above the JD.

It has more horsepower, better lifting capacity, it's heavier, and costs about $2k less. However, I cannot find a torque number to compare against the JD (~65 ft/lbs). From a diesel perspective, this seems a pretty important figure.

Also, some of the posts I have read suggest that the Kubota is slow to work (lack of torque?).

Does anyone know the torque number? Also, does anyone have any particular views of the L3130 against the JD 4210?

Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.

TTT what are your plans for the tractor? What tasks do you hope to accomplish? What is your property like (flat, trees, hills, narrow paths in the woods, wide open spaces, overall size?)

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Putting the 3130 against the 4210 really isn't a fair comparison. The 3130 is quite a bit more tractor. The 3130 really is a large chassis CUT with a mid-chassis size range engine. I think that is why it is compared to so many mid-chassis size machines. A better comparison to the 4210 would be a B (like B2710) series Kubota.

Thanks for the response. I would say the primary use will be moving dirt, with the occasional digging of post holes, mowing fields, etc.

Our property is fairly flat, and is all pasture land.

One thing we want to use the tractor for is helping to build a practice motocross track. While we'll still need a CAT for final prep, we hope to do alot of the prep with this unit.

I agree, it seems that the Kubota is a much bigger, more powerful tractor than the 4210. However, I have been quoted a price about $1000 less than one local JD dealer, and about $3000 less than another one a bit further away.

Logic would suggest that, for the same money, I should run, not walk, to the Kubota dealer and get the L3130.

But before I do that, I am hoping to sort out the torque rating on the Kubota. Horsepower is one thing, but my experience with diesels is that torque is king.

Along those lines, it seems other posts have suggested that the Kubota is low on power (torque?).

Thoughts? Thanks again for your time and insight, this is all new to me!

The L3130 is a superb tractor and many folks here own one. I think many folks may argue that Kubota stands above JD and in some cases I would argue the opposite. In this case though, I like the L3130 over the JD even if you are comparing it to the JD 4310. You simply won't find a quieter, smoother, or stronger loader in JD's comparable models. Thats saying a lot too because the JD 4310 is a very good tractor. I have no reference on the JD 4210.

RaT - Many thanks for taking the time to respond. This is all new to me, so the vote of confidence on the Kubota is comforting.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Engine torque of JD 4210 is 61.5 and L3130 is 75.9. I think you'll find the L3130 is more comparable to the JD 4310 or 4410.
But make sure you buy either from a good dealer who will service it. A tractor out-of-service has zero torque.
Good luck with your decision!

It's really odd, and must be one of those regional price things. When I shopped the JD 4310 and the Bota L3130 were within 200 dollars of each other. Depending on if you're still interested in JD, I'd suggest that you tell the JD dealer that he needs to seriously consider his pricing. I agree with the others that the 4210 and the L3130 aren't really competitors.

Steve - Thanks for the note. I am surprised on the price, but the Kubota's across the line, at least here in Western Washington, are considerably cheaper than the JD's.

Not sure if this is legit, but the Kubota dealer is advertising this as a Puyallup Fair (6th largest Fair in the states) Special. I typically consider these just marketing ploys, but maybe it's legit.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
