I am looking to aquire my first tractor. I have been reading posts and looking at the different models. I have it ruled down to the B or L series but no models yet. Allthough, I will say I am leaning towards the mid to lower ones. Wanted to get some guidance from others.

I currently live on 2+ acres and could upgrade to 5+ soon. Around here, all I would be doing is

boxing a 800+ ft gravel driveway
hauling lots of mulch every year
hauling lost of dirt every year
light grading
Brush removal privet and such
Knock some small stumps down
Haul limbs and junk
bush hog the back 1/4 acre
Garden Till the 1/2 the back 1/4 acre

I also will soon get 100 - 300 acres and will, haul the tractor too
Bush wack fields
Brush Removal
Haul Dirt
Till, disk food plots
Till open fileds for millet plantings etc.
Scrape roads and trails
Light grading

I also will probally haul it to some friends property from time too time and do some food plots for them as well. Thanks for guidance on an appropriate tractor for the tasks.

if you stopped at 2+ acres a B would be fine, but given the amount of work that appears to be in your future I would want an L... a big L.

I think Messick gave you about as good an answer as anyone could at this point in time.

I will say you need two tractors, a 25 - 35hp for now then a big ag tractor for the future field plowing.

You might want to consider what the biggest tractor you can haul would be.
For example, I have a car hauler trailer, two 3500# axles. I can haul my L series tractor on it. But my towing vehicle is maxed out according to the owners manual.

So you might consider what trailer you already own or your towing vehicle. THat might swing the vote.

I suggest the L series, if you can do it.

First thought that came to my mind too...

Hard for me to see how a tractor that fits 5 acres or so would be a workable solution for 100~plus acres.

I would like to reverse the question and ask: "how many of you guys with 100~300 acres have only one tractor?"

I forgot too mention the towing. Towing capacity of my truck is 9400. The larger acreage will not be 100-200 acres continous. It will be broken up into a few smaller 10 - 15 acre fields with millit rows spread about 10 - 15 feet apart. Then misalanious food plots approx 1-3 acres just a handfull

Thanks for all the good sugestions and guidance!

Any chance on selling the 2-5 acres and just moving to the 100-300? Use the proceeds to set yourself up, accordingly.

Then you just need one BIG tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
