Wife was realy wanting to go so I took her and kids down to the lake to fish for a little while.
Well I am getting on to everyone about watching their back cast and all was going ok till my girl got a little bass and got a little worked up... I no more got sat back down at the front of the boat from takeing it off the hook when I hear ouch!!!" look back to see a crank bait hanging for the wifes eye with my daughter crying sorry sorry... it was right at dark and I could not see good blood everwhere and it looked to be IN the eye All three of them are freaked out and crying so off to the ER .God that was a long trip... She got lucky and I mean REAL lucky ....one set of treble hooks all the way in just above he eye and the other set just below the eye.

I took a pic but she says she will KILL ME if I post them.

Well as much as I have told them what could happen I think this might have got to them

dem treble hooks is a biatch....

wait till she's not lookin' and post the pics. (no pun intended).

seriously, really sorry to hear about that. i'm sure it was scary. i think every kid has to be around when someone gets hooked before they take it seriously. i remember seeing several friends hooked in various places when i was just learning. it always sucks and makes you glad you aren't a fish....

hope your wife is ok and the kids are more aware of what they are doing next time. keep the wound clean and some pure vitamin E oil on it once it heals over to keep any scars from showing and she'll be good to go...

I was having a hard time imagining casting this time of year,

till I saw your location..

(expected a thin ice story here with a big crack
as the auger plunged thru it!)

I hunt with a friend who lost an eye while fishing when he was a kid...Went to set the hook and when he came back on the pole, he must have really pulled because the sinker came out of the water and hit him square in the eye blinding it...Accidents happen so fast even when you're trying to have fun.

Glad your wife is OK. When my kids were little I used various strategies to keep us safe such as.
Ice fishing rods. It's like a 2 or 3 foot long spinning rod.
Jigging and trolling.
"Fishing" sunglasses and hats, just like the pro wear.

We probably looked pretty silly but we still had fun. Kids stayed safe, but each managed to hook a dog.

I'm glad your wife is alright. I've had many near-miss accidents similar to that. We were drifting a river one day and a jug line ended up wrapping around our trolling motor. I lifted the jug and started pulling up the hooks to throw it away from the motor and a 6' alligator gar floated up with it. It saw the boat and took off. It ended up setting a 6/0 hook in my palm flat on it.

I drove myself back to the boat ramp while my wife about passed out, loaded up my boat and waited for her father in his boat. A guy with him pushed the hook through, cut the barb and pulled it out. It was real close to the bone, which I could tell by not seeing a whole lot of hook left exposed.

Those treble hooks are dangerous. I remember a video with Keith Warren or Alan Warren and he's topwater/saltwater fishing and he hooks a top dog with 2 treble hooks in his hand. Even the professionals do it, look at Bill Dance. lol

YouTube - Bill Dance Fishing Bloopers - Dance hooked in nose

Search Youtube for Bill Dance and you'll find some hilarious bloopers of him. The one with the battery off of the pier is the greatest.

i did about the same thing last year. i hooked my son right above the
eye lid fishing one morning. no blood i cut the hooks but could not remove
the barb.
he was a trooper we made a 1 hour drive to the er all was ok. the most sick feeling i have ever had. im not sure how it happened we
were both of the front deck of the boat ?
we told momma later dont think she could have took it.

your lucky what i wouldnt do to fish at night right now nothing like
fishing after dark if i lived in florida i would be divorced. water temp here is 45
and will fall like a rock this week.
