At times like this I'm really glad we live on the side of a hill! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The runoff rocketed down the drainage ditches so fast it took out much of the road, and the culverts at the bottom are pretty well silted up, but no permanent damage. The basement is flooding, but so far nothing the sump pump can't handle. The portable electric fencing was blown down, but the sheep had been confined in the permanent enclosure anyway. The back of the garage (storage shed and sheep shelter) is pretty wet, but our last minute dash with shovels (wearing only muck boots -- there's a sight!) diverted most of it to the side and away.

Pretty worried about folks down to the valley, though. Heard sirens wailing all over the place. This was every bit as intense as any tropical monsoon I'd ever experienced!

Wearing only "muck boots", you mean to say you were necked? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Pete it has been a strange year so far as the weather has been concerned. Last month we were up to our necks with rain and now I'm back to watering the tomatoes and beans for the lack of it.

Glad to hear that you and the family are OK though.

Hey, we own the hill so who's gonna see us? Besides, it terrifies trespassers when a property owner accosts them attired like that! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tamara and I rode the ATV (clothed) down the dirt road. It was washed out in several places, as was the blacktop road below. Big boulders strewn all over the remains of the road, too! We can hear heavy machinery working its way toward us, so will probably rejoin civilization soon.

After several hours of digging out silted up culverts and using the fill to repair our dirt road, I was able to drive down to the blacktop and proceed to work. The attached pic is taken at the top of the paved road. Already you can see the damage. The worst part was half a mile down the hill where the water was going full bore. The pavement was gone, the town was dumping huge loads of fill into the gap, and most of the sediment had gone over the edge and right into a modular home that was installed just below the curve last year! We all thought it was a crazy place to build since any drunk who missed the curve would land in your living room. Never imagined a flood would hit him!

We got some wild rain here in Edmonton also. The city had to use snowplows to clean the hail off the streets.
