Hi!
I bought my 1554GT used. From 'my' day 1, the PTO would engage then stop if in the normal (forward mowing) key position. I've always had to switch it to reverse mode and hit the button.
Today, while changing the oil, I was poking around, cleaning debris out from the undercarriage and saw a wire _*REALLY*_ close to the disc brake. It turns out, it is the reverse indicator wire. The brake had worn down the insulation and it would short (thereby indicating 'reverse') to the disc.
I clipped the bad section out, replaced it with a longer wire and put a loom over it. I then zip-tied the loom out of harms way.
Oil change done, mower now works in 'normal'.
I thought I'd post up in the hope that this will help someone in the same situation.
It was really poor routing of the wire.
