I have a 580c construction king with a rust spot around the valve stem. The other rim is fine. I am assuming the salt liquid they put in these is causing this. I used a wire brush and put some Rust-Oleum rust remover on it. My question is, how thick is the metal on these rims, and can it be fixed without replacing as I usually only put about 3 hours on it a year. I am thinking if it blows out when i am in the back field i could have an expensive mess on my hands.

Thanks for any advice!

You could probably get a better idea of the thickness by measuring the edge near the tire. Maybe lift the wheel, put the stem at 12:00 reduce pressure (assuming it’s not all liquid) to access the wheel’s edge.
Unless there is significant heaving at that location from expansion, I’d say there is a considerable loss of material at the stem and you are running on borrowed time.

I hope this helps.
