I stupidly took the winch off my tractor and left it standing on soft ground. It tipped over and flattened the pto shaft under it. The action was like bending the shaft in order to pry it off w/o pushing the release pin.
The release pin was jammed. I got it loose by knocking the shaft back in so the pin was in the groove again. Lucky guess. I still had to jack the shaft off the splinded winch shaft and it would not slide back on. It took me a while but I finally figured out that the pin had buggered up one of the splines when it was yanked against the groove. I dressed up the spline with a small file to get the shaft to slip on and off freely as it should. The two tubes slid together freely all the way so I put it all back together and ran it. It had a wooble in the shaft. I disassembled it thinking I might be able to straighten it. The inner shaft is bent a little (pic) I should have seen it. I don't think it will be easy to straighten unless there is a trick to it. I would like to buy just the inner shaft if I can find one. It was BFH tough to drive the bent inner tube out of the yoke. If a new tube goes in that hard lining up the holes for the roll pin could be a challenge. (Can't believe you need a pin it was so tight)
Any helpful advise here will be appreciated. Thanks. It is a La Magdalena shaft.

You can try these guys for a replacement shaft, or check with your local tractor dealers, and machine shops. My dealer didn't have a shaft the size I needed in stock, but sent me to the local machine shop. They didn't have one either(most every other size, used material,) but gave me the address of their supplier, who cut me just what i needed. I think I would drive the new shaft in first, then drill for the pin.

Thanks guys - I should be able to get help from either of those places. Glad to see the $99 for the same shaft if my repair fails. Thought it would be much more based on other places I looked/found..

Drill for roll pin after - Well Duh, that is to simple. Thanks. I guess I was thinking predrilled spare part but that wouldn't be the case anyway probsably.

I have bought equipment at scrap prices plus alittle- just to get the PTO shaft that was on it. People look at you funny when the gearbox or the side of a piece of equipment is completely missing and your still bidding.

Thats devious - haha. It's better when they don't know what you are after.
I might add- on that buggered up spline on the winch shaft that made the pto shaft go on with a force fit. I could not feel the peened up spot and needed a magnifying glass to see it. Those things have a pretty close fit I guess.

On ease of assembly just put new shaft in freezer for a while. It might slide in without the need of a hammer.

Just heat about an inch wide band half way around the circumference of the shaft on the outside of the bend red hot with an O/A torch; then quench with a water spray to cool. Then move up or down the shaft an inch or so and heat another band on the high side red hot halfway around and cool it the same way.Keep at it until the shaft is straight enough to suit you.

That process shrinks the heated part of the shaft which tends to pull the shaft back straight. I did that very thing a few months ago on a JD sickle mower I bought and removed most of a pretty large bend.

The tube material is almost certainly mild steel, so the heating and rapid cooling does not affect the grain structure or strength any more than welding on it does.

Well I got out the torch set and did just what you said. And SHAZAM it is straight. Took about 10 shots learning and experimenting. Its not perfect but it's straight enough so that I can slide the bent end with the roll pin hole into the outer tube. The two tubes slide together freely to the bottom. Now I can put the good end in the yoke and drill a new hole. Should be good as new.
Thank you very much for the great help. That is a technique to remember.
