The house I purchased has vinyl siding. Underneath the vinyl siding is 1" foam board. The top piece is cut lengthwise to fit. It's about 6" wide. Whoever did the siding job, did not user double undersill trim at the top and just used J channel. He used liquid nails to hold the last piece in place. The top piece's are starting to fall off. The siding is a light green that is no longer being made. I cannot find long enough green trim nails to attach it. Any idea's on how to attached this top piece so it stays put? I need at least a 1 1/2" trim nail, but they don't make them that long and I won't be able to buy double undersill trim in the color to match.

Thinking about this now, I may be able to get clay colored single undersill trim and stick it inside of the existing J channel and hopefully you won't be able to see it.

Long coated staples work well for making stuff stay without much exposure.

Get a matching color utility trim (what the narrowed top piece fits into when the job is done right) and nail it up inside the j channel but lower it a bit. There is a notcher you can buy at the lumber yard that makes a barbed hole on the top piece of siding that when slid up into the utility trim will click in and hold it in place. Not too hard of a fix - hardest part will be finding a matching or close to matching color.

That's a good idea. I have a one and I believe is has 2" galvanized staples.

I can't match the color. That is why I thought about getting the clay color finish trim and stick it inside the green J channel.

Take the green siding in and get color matched, in a good acrylic, clean and paint the new sill trim. done

I agree with getting paint color matched. I had to make some repairs on the house, and just painted it. You'd be hard pressed to find the painted repair.

The top course when it is a narrow piece can be installed with stainless finish nails that are nailed through the small weep holes in the very bottom.
