I had a rifle stolen back in 2002, was told by the cop that took the case that i would never see the gun again. He told me it was probably in mexico or Florida. Told me that it would change hands 10 times in a month. Well my friends, i got a call today form a detective that they had recovered my gun! ! ! I go to the evidence room to pick it up, have a big simile on my face till they pull it from the back. It was spray painted black. . .about 10 different times. was rusty as an old model A and as dirty as a pig rolling in slop. and someone taped, yes taped a laser red dot to it. Was told that the report showed it was found under the front porch of a house just 30 miles away.
have taken it a part and cleaned it but don't know if it will ever shoot again.
but hey i got it back.

You got your gun, but what you'd probably like to know is the history of who was a tenant at that house where the gun was found. Luckily, it was not a handgun. Rifles have a lot less chance of ever being used for robberies than stolen handguns. I'd feel pretty bad if I had a handgun stolen and found out it was used in a robbery or to shoot somebody.:(

Congratulations, it's always nice to hear that sometimes things that are stolen are found and returned to their owners. What is the story on how it got stolen? Did they catch the thief?

What Eddie said??

Sounds like kids since the scope was "taped" on and it had been spray painted.

Well my wife had $300 in the desk because we were going to buy something (don't remember what it was) anyway when she went to get the money she noticed it was missing. She asked me if i used it and i didn't so we thought our 2 year old might have picked it up as she was into everything back then. Well we go through her room the game room and then the trash, you know how they like to put stuff in the trash at that age. Anyway we never found it. about a week later my wife i noticed i was missing a cordless drill. . . . looked for all the other "nice" stuff we owned and noticed the gun was missing. Called the cops that very min. To this day i think it was one of my employes who used to work with me as he was the only one who knew we were saving money in the desk and that knew i kept that gun behind my bedroom door.

the pic is of the gun after putting it in an ultra sonic tank for 4hrs at 200 degrees.

I had a Sig P220 stolen from my car in Cleveland back around 1995. The cops call once every year to see if it is still missing. :confused2:

I want to tell them THEY are the ones looking for it, not me, but I just answer the questions. Not holding my breath anymore on it.

Unless there are good leads and evidence to follow up when these things get stolen, its hard to recover them. Most times weapons are recovered when the police come across guns and such during other investigations. They check the serial numbers in the database and BAM! it comes back stolen.

Did your insurance pay for the gun when it got stolen?

Brian, one of my brothers was much luckier than you. In January, 1987, his apartment was burglarized in Anchorage, AK. Last summer (2010), a police officer from a little town on the Oregon coast called him to tell him they'd recovered one of his shotguns (2 were taken in the burglary). It seems a 54 year old man with no prior record, who said he bought it from an individual several years ago, tried to pawn it and the pawn shop owner called the police. The gun was a Mossberg Pump AT500 Trap Special and my brother said when he got it back, it looked as good as the day it was stolen. So it was recovered 23 years later, and my brother had moved at least 7 times since then and was a full time RVer when the Oregon police tracked him down.
