flail height adjustment

I have searched the threads, including the LONG one but didn't find this answer. I have a Caroni 1900,... with the roller bar and skid plates set to second from bottom setting (both roller and skids matching corresponding holes) I can adjust cutting height anywhere from 2"-6" by raising/lowering lift arms and adjusting top link and roller is still touching the ground..... Would cutting in this range be correct?? It is much easier than adjusting roller and skid arms from say 2 to 3rd or 4th holes.

The roller is designed for full-time ground contact, the skids are not. The tractor hitch should be adjusted to the point where it permits the flail to float while mowing. Initially, intended gross height adjustments are made at the roller and skids. Subsequent cutting height adjustments are fine-tuned at the toplink. The roller holes selected dictate how much material will NOT be cut. Bottom holes leave more, top holes leave less. Once set, I move on to the skids. I adjust them so that - when actually mowing - there's a (minimum) one inch between skids and level ground. I then control subsequent cutting height with my (hydraulic) toplink.

Perfect!
And with a hydraulic top link, you can set the cut height on the fly if need be.

will show you how to set up your tractor and your Caroni flail mower properly.
