Me and my dad have been check out some Flail Mowers and they seem like they would be good for us since they don't thrown objects hit and Also give a nice fine cut. But were debating whether we should buy a 72" Flail with a PT-1845 or buy a 3pt Hitch+PTO Powered Flail for our John Deere 5310
Anyone have any experience with the Power Trac Flail Mower?

From what I get on the flail mowers, the big complaint is that the teeth tend to die quickly and expensively. I am not saying the PT brand is worse or better, just that the flails tend to wear out quickly, or at least quickly to expectations.

It all depends on what you are cutting. If you have fine blades and stick with cutting grass, they will last a while. If you have med flail blades, and cut grass and brush. They will wear quickly. They have flail axes for heavy stuff., they will last longer.

With all due respect to you and your dad,

I am just a little curious if you have your dad's permission to speak for him and be saying all the things you are saying about what you have and are going to do.

Is your dad not interested enough to be asking the questions, or is this all your idea.

J_J,
We discuss all this before I post this on here.
Two reasons why I'm doing the posting; 1. My Parents are divorced and I live with my mom.
I only see my dad when I'm at work with him and whenever else we do something.
2. My Dad doesn't have a Computer and Internet. He can afford it but for some reason does not want one (which is very crazy to me)

As with the Flail mower, we've had some big problems eith our JD 709 Bush Hog Hitting and throwing objects buried in the Brush. So he told me to ask you guys about the Power-Trac Flail Mower and ask about about Experience with one.

To answer your question J_J, yes I am speaking for my Dad. He tells me what to post and get advice for on here. I get ideas for somethings based on whats our needs our at our Landscaping Jobs and talk to him about it and then he has me ask about it on here.

We mow is everything from Grass Lawns to heavy weeds and Brush.
The Flail Axes sound like they would cut it (No pun intended :D)

Called Chris at PT today and asked him about the Flail Mowers, mainly the 96" Flail for the 1850. He said the Flail Mower for the 1850 will Cut everything from High Grass and weeds but will also Mow a Grass Lawn with a Nice Fine Cut. We'll have to try one when we go down to Tazewell.

What ever you and your dad's decisions are in your tool buying, I hope everything works out great for the both of you and that you and your dad have many satisfying hours working together and making memories that will last a lifetime and then get passed down to the next generation.

i think it's great that a kid this young even takes an intrest in this stuff.....i work with kids and mainly they are only interested in what the latest cell phone is....and blaming others for everything, thinking the world revolves around them, seeing how much they can take from the system.....

you'll love a flail mower.....you keep workin' with your pa......
