Flail Mower, yes or no

I have an old Caroni finishing mower that has had its day, contemplating a flail mower- have about 10-11 acres of field to keep the weeds down. Any feedback on flail mowers???

first Time tractor and flail mower owner here.

I remember as a kid when brushhogging, stay away as a rock could fly out of that like a bullet. I love my flail mower due to its compact size and cut quality vs rotary cutter. I just finished 45 hours of flail mowing my pastures, half of which we neglected for the past two years. 6’ of sticker/thorn bushes were literally no issue. I was surprised how well the snail cut.

small saplings, no issue either. The only thing it did like were two rocks/boulders that are embedded into the side of a hill that I didn’t know were there, other than that, all good.

I like mine for our pastures. Finish and ruggedness is between a brush hog and finish mower. Perfect for fields and pastures, not so much for your lawn or clearing a forest. You've been using a finish mower, so you should already know where the rocks are

Please take the time to read the flail mower thread and then go from there and ask questions
and after that ask more questions and then start shopping as you will have to decide if you want
a finish flail mower or a rough cut flail mower that is either a standard flail mower that is either
an (1)offset flail mower or (2)mounted directly behind your L3800 or a smaller Orchard and Vineyard
boom mounted flail shredder from Maschio.

Don't buy a flail mower that is much wider than your L3800 UNLESS you are mowing 4 acre blocks every 2 weeks
which is what my father did with his Ford Jubilee and the John Deere 25A finish flail mower(now the 290 model) with side slicer knives.
