2001 JD 790
As you know by now, I recently purchased a 2001 JD 790. The only flaw on this baby is I can't seem to get the flashers to work. I actually replaced the originals with totally new ones as they were broken. Still no flashing...they don't even light up. I spoke to the JD dealer and he said everything was in the light switch itself.
just wondering if this has happened to anyone else out there and what the source of the problem could be. Thanks for the help.

John

Are you referring to the amber lights above the fenders? Do they work in the directional mode (left turn or right turn positions) or they don't work at all?

Here is what the service manual says about the hazard circuit...

"Hazard Position:
In the Hazard position current flows from the light switch
through the X9 (light switch) connector, 471 Grn wire, F4 5
amp fuse, and the 459 Grn wire to the K4 flasher.
Intermittent current flows from the K4 flasher through the
687 Grn/Yel wire to the X15 rear wiring harness coupler.
From the X15 coupler current flows through the 684/671
Grn/Yel wires and the 670 Grn wire to the E3 Left hazard/
turn light.
Intermittent current also flows from the K4 flasher through
the 686 Grn/Blk wires to the X15 rear wiring harness
coupler. From the X15 coupler current flows through the
688/676 Grn/Blk wires and the 675 Grn wire to the E4 right
hazard/turn light."

Attached is the schematic for the light circuit for the 790 up to s/n 790000. Hope it helps.
Be sure to check the fuses...

Muxster,

Now that is what I call a very helpful reply:D:D

As Muxster pointed out with the fuses - check all the basics with regard to powers and grounds. If none of the turns/tails/hazards work check the common ground through X15. Appears to be lots of interconnects in these lighting circuits - make sure all the various connectors are fully seated and locked. Make sure K4 is getting power from the 5 amp fuse

Had same problem with my 790 flashers.....bulbs were not seated properly. Took 'em out, cleaned the bulbs/contacts, put them back in, presto change-o.

I was wondering if you could get me a copy of the manual for a John Deere 790, which is the TM 2088 manual or the TM1470!

Welcome to TBN

Manual can be purchased for the 790.
Or possibly a free copy can be found. Worth the money if you plan to work on your 790 yourself.

Tell us a bit about your 790, its history, and what the problems might be. A lot of members here willing to help you out.

I am going to need to replace the clutch on my 790 John Deere at some point, I would like to see a TM 2088 or a TM 1470 manual.
