flat tow? (and stumbled, stalled, no start)

So was brush hogging field today and '12 DK40se stalled. Would start up and run a bit and then stall again. fuel gauge wasn't on E but added some fuel incase it wasn't reading right. same story....now won't even start.

immediate question is...

1.) can I flat tow with the hst in N to get back up to the barn? Have admonishments about towing hst lawn tractor but couldn't find anything about this one.

Next...
2.) any thoughts on issue? seems like fuel starvation to me. Only 68 hours on clock and was serviced at 50.

I don't know anything about towing a HST, and I would not do that until I had a definitive answer. Have you removed the fuel bowl and examined the contents? Pour it into a clear glass jar & look for water in the fuel. The fuel sender on at least the CK30 and DK 40 is notoriously wrong. Mine reads "E" and still has 4 gal left in it, so I doubt you ran out of fuel.

Hope it's something simple. I don't remember reading anything about towing in the manual, but in N the HST is totally disengaged so it will be fine.

not an expert, but I would put the tractor in Neutral and be sure the 4x4 is in the OFF position, then I would tow it without any fear

Tow it from the drawbar at the rear end. The front wheels should follow, or you could strap the steering in center position. Range selector in neutral, PTO disengaged and brakes, 4x4 and key off.

HST lawn tractor has hydraulic motors for steering that need to be disengaged before moving.

Your DK may have air in fuel line, check position of valve at fuel bowl, and make sure bowl is secure in housing.
