I am getting ready to take the loader off of my 4110 to do some other work and in the manual it says to put the loader control in the float position, but does not say what or where the float position is.
If you push your loader joystick forward like you were going to lower the loader push the lever even farther and you feel it pop into the "float" position once it is in the float position you will have to pull it back out a little jerk on the lever will do it.
Not all loaders have a "float" position. I think it is more a feature of the controller than the FEL itself. My BushHog M2346 has a float, the EZeeOn2100 on our 4320 JD does not. The 2346 has a joystick control on the FEL itself, the EzeeOn loader is just hooked up to the dual hydraulic remotes. Don't know about your ML 264.
Yes, your ML 264 has a "float" position. Just push it hard forward and it will stay in that position. It opens the valves and lets the hydraulic pistons on the FEL become "neutral". BobG in Va

Float is a function of the loader valve. It is very rare that you see a loader valve without float. Sometimes the float detent is hard to enter, if so then just push forward hard on the control lever and it will pop in. Float for loaders has been around a long time. My 1963 IH TD6 Drott dozer has float on the loader control valve.
I believe I have the ML260 on my 4500. I have noticed that when I pull back on the controller stick, the bucket will start to lift. If I keep pulling back on the stick, I feel it jump into another position and the bucket then falls to the ground. I know when I'm lifting something heavy, I have to be careful not to pull back on the stick too far or my load will go down instead of up. Could this be the float position on my loader?
There is a problem with your loader valve. Call your dealer and have him check the problem out. That could be dangerous in the right situation. The float position is in the furthest forward position. Good luck with it.

Float is always in the "lowering" position, usually a detented position slightly beyond the full lower position.
If your loader is dropping when you have the spool lever in the full "raise" position then the valve spool itself has issues. It could be a defective load check in the spool or an improperly machined spool rod. If it's under warranty your dealer should be able to fix or replace the valve.
