I agree with everything EXCEPT i never leave a ballast. Never.

Youve just left an object that will fail and ruin the retrofit.
I agree with you in that I would rather remove all unneeded components, but how is an abandoned, disconnected ballast going to fail and ruin a retrofit?

My bad, i thought you ment you didnt remove the ballast and used led that required the ballast.

I leave all cut, unused ballast in the fixture also. Less mess in landfill

Local Utility is very much hot or miss…

Bought a programmable thermostat within 2 weeks of the rebate and sent in my proof…

Didn’t here anything for about 6 weeks or maybe 8… then I get a postcard saying the overwhelming response exhausted the funds…

My brothers HVAC rebate stop when utility filed bankruptcy.

A lot of dads friend got tax credits during the Carter years for installing wood burning stoves… now they pay you to remove???

So you mean sometimes you have voltage (hot) and sometimes you miss it? :ROFLMAO: Yeah sounds like Cali...

That too… the neighbors and I all were shopping microwaves at the same time…

Everyone’s LED lights worked ok but everyone’s microwave quit and the electric range took forever.

A transformer let go and instead of 122 bolts I measured about half that…

Lineman said old transformer with many new EV’s plugging in makes this a frequent occurrence…

How much do you actually get on a programmable thermostat? I installed 10 (no joke, big house!) when we moved in, replaced the old Mercury-tube Honeywell dial types, but never bothered to inquire about rebates for them.

Programmable thermostats aren't all that expensive, until you start buying them ten at a time. :ROFLMAO:

My then pregnant sister in law was T-boned when a UC Berkeley student ran a red light.

My brother spoke to several lawyers and the only ones willing to take the case were in the 40-42% of recovery.

My brother reached out to the insurance company for the red light runner and he was told to have his lawyer call as they do not speak with injured parties directly.

Brother prepared his own legal filing and filed suit in Superior Court… now the insurance company wanted to talk but offered pennies.

Brother said see you in court…

Morning of court judge directed a pre court settlement conference… same offer…

Brother said the figure I provided is the amount to settle.

As the clerk called the case… the lawyer for the insurance company said to the Judge we accept the amount plaintiff requests.

Just think how many would have folded or caved?
Twice, I've settled for a totaled car on the phone with the insurance company the day before court. Their attitude changes as soon as they discover that no, it's not worth the effort, but it's the principle that matters with me.

Due to the frequent outages in my area, I sometimes refer to PG&E as Part-time Gas & Electric. I don't know of any gas outages, I'm on propane with my own tank so that is moot. Ever since installing solar* with batteries, the outages don't affect me much. Finding out the local grid is down via text message (vs. everything shutting off) is its own kind of giggle.

*Not to "save the world" or virtue-signal I'm green, rather for my own convenience and uninterrupted power, and hopefully to save $$, especially as prices head for the Sun. Also have an electric SxS and ZTM that I like to charge for "free" (I paid upfront[solar]). The utility and gummint subsidies at the time didn't hurt. There is quite a bit of solar in my area, so PG&E's lines and transformers are spared some of the AC load on the hot days.

Here's an interesting thing my dad taught me: insurance companies hire mediocre lawyers. They avoid the worst, and they won't pay for the best. Generalization, of course.

There is a guy on firearms forums who holds himself out as a guru. I looked him up, and he does insurance work. That confirmed my assessment of him, which was not a glowing one.

The guy who sues insurance companies gets huge payouts. The guy who represents them works for wages. There is a reason for this. Nobody who has the chops to put himself in a private jet is going to take hourly work.

I don't know which has the more honorable job. Tort lawyers are vultures who make society finance dubious verdicts, but insurance companies are beneath excrement.

Government lawyers generally aren't great, either, except for people who use government jobs as launching pads to better things. Marcia Clark and Chris Darden come to mind.

The prosecutors in the Alec Baldwin case are also notable. How they dropped that ball is beyond me.
