Folks,

Am getting ready to change out the diff's and trans in my 224 and am wondering what th total fluid capacities are for these units. I want to have enough replacement gear oil on hand when I drain and flush so I don't have to make a second trip to the parts store. I did a forum search on the subject and came up blank. Any info will be appreciated.

5 gallons of gear oil should be enough. be sure to get oil that is safe for yellow metals, there are brass bearings (thrust washers actually) in the differential of Jinma tractors that over time could be etched by high sulfur oil.

Hey DustOff,

I used gear oil in mine and got more than I needed from WalMarts, and took the unopened container back that I didn't need. They have 80w90 and 85w/140 gear oil, says ok with copper and bronze, and says fights foaming. I started out with 80w/90 and then switched to the 85w/140 this last change out, to try and prevent leaks. I have been running the 85w140 for about 40 hours now, and no foaming and the gears seem to shift a little bit smoother. But I am down on the Gulf Coast where the temps are a little bit on the warm side.

Have a nice day,
