( The only real difficult part was trying to line up the rim holes with the studs when mounting the large rear tires. Up and down was not a problem. The problem was trying to "roll" it even a little to line it up. Anyone have any tricks to do this?

To get the holes to line up on a rear wheel for example: I jack up both sides of the rear end and put the transmission in neutral so as I move the wheel close to the studs with the crane I can rotate the rear axle fairly easily by hand so the studs or bolt holes line up with the wheel. It is much easier than trying to wrestle the loaded tire and wheel assembly.

The engine hoists sound like a great idea - but has anyone tried this approach with a newer 'styled' tractor that has the rear fenders covering most of the top of the tire? How do you best get the tire tucked underneath while hanging from the hoist?

that' where the dolly comes in handy, typically they are 16"-20" wide. Give the cherry picker a little slack, let some air out of the tires so it gets squatty. The fluid in the tire lets it sort of sit up on its own, and the cherry picker is insurance if it does go, the slack (2-3") will keep it from going all the way over. Then, just push the tire/dolly combo up to the hub and adjust tractor height with a floor jack so the hub is right where it needs to be. Then a large long multi-tool (screwdriver) thru the bolt hole into the mounting hub or against the stud to rotate the hub (tractor in nuetral) will allow you to spin the hub so the bolts/studs will line up with the rim.

I can adjust the strap so the hook point is on the outside of the tire allowing the tire to sneak under the fender and the strap to remain outside. Hope this helps.

I've got a crane just like that, except yours is better, mine was only $100. If you attach those vertical braces to the outside of the lower rungs, when you fold it up the leg extensions will have something to rest against.....It just looks better. That's the same way I did it, at first.

Must be a different design. When the leg are up on mine, they get locked into place so they won't fall.

As stated the one I purchased was $169. It has a 10 ton ram.
Harbor Freight was $199 + shipping etc, With an 8 ton ram

I've just used a long drift to get the bolt hole to line up, works pretty well......I have a brass one that won't tear up the threads too.........the cherry picker is a great idea too....

That's what I use. It's worked well for years and it's generally pretty simple.
