I am about to do my first fluid change on my 1600. Can someone please give me a hint on how much tranny fluid and motor oil this thing will hold. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hello fellow Tarheel::: Why don't you check the fluid in the trans first. If it is on the full mark, I would drain it in a container that I could tell how much fluid is in it; ie, one gallon,, two gallon.. Know what I mean???
As far as the oil in motor I would say aroung 4 - 5 quarts. Are changing the Hydrolic filter also?? If you have one;;;;;;;; I just done all that to my ym226 that has power shift, so fluids would be different. I'm looking at a ym240 service manual;; two cylinder engine.. Lub system: 1 US gal...
For the transmission I would say around 4 - 5 gallons. I had to use Transmission/Hydrolic oil,, not sure what you would use....

I have the fuel and motor oil filters ready to be slapped on. (Previously changed the air filter.) From what I read here and other places, I believe my hydraulic filter is a screen that will need attention not a filter per se. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong.) Same situation with the tranny/hyd fluid as yours. I have read here and other places that it is the same thing in the same place. I had planned on measuring the fluid after it was drained, of course checking the level first. I was looking for a "double check". If I had an idea that there was 5 gallons supposed to be in there, and I only got 2 1/2 out I would know something was up. :) My brother-in-law works on tractors, heavy equipment, and other diesels all day professionally, he will be helping walk me through a thorough maintenance schedule with me. I was looking for a little heads up ahead of time. I know he will take the time to show me as much as possible. If something messes up, he will be the one to fix it. LOL

Thanks for the help. What part of NC are you from?

I'm out of Rocky Mount. The screen you are talking about is on the side of the rear end close to the brake lever. There was a picture of it on another post a few days ago. It kinda looks like a triangle, three bolts.....

That will help out a lot. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

I am pretty dern knowledgable in areas of fishing and surf casting distance competition. I help quite a few people over on our fishing boards. I am glad there is something similar for those of us who don't know jack about tractors. Thank you and thanks to all who post informative information to help us newbies out. It is greatly appreciated. I am sure the "basics" are taken for granted by the verterans. Those of us who are attempting to learn greatly appreciate this resource. :)

The screen is on the front of the transmission, down at the bottom on the YM1600.

You say you are pretty knowledgeable about FISHING !!!!! ME TOO!!!!!!
Absolutely love fishing on the coast. I love seeing people doing something stupid and walking up to them and showing them the correct way to do. I have found that people are pretty grateful when I do that. I was on the Gulf Coast of Florida for 25 years,, I had a charter boat docked at Destin, Fla.
But had to move home to NC so I could take care of my parents who were getting way up in the age bracket!!!!! I do miss the water!!!!!
So now am into TRACTORS AND GARDENING AND CUTTING DOWN TREES FOR MORE GARDEN SPACE......... GRDNFRM@AOL.COM

The handle "thekingfeeder" comes from my love of king fishing. :)

I looked for the screen cover and did find it where 1danny said it would be. I happened to find it this morning when I was looking for it. Thanks for the info danny.
