Hey fellows, wanted to see what u think about FMI's new prototype. It has both horizonal (original standard) knives and vertical knives. The body is very compact and tough with a hydraulic push bar that has more travel than any I've seen. The push bar also has cutting blades welded in the corners of each end to aid in cutting small branches. It also has a hydraulic push blade at the rear bottom to do light pushing that tucks away nicely when not used.

Without a website, they will never make it. Can you provide a link? When you search FMI Mulcher in google, your thread appears as the #1 result.

Sorry dirtroad there is no website, it's not on the market yet. Sorry I didnt tell yall that it can be seen on you tube, forestry mower little woody. FMI hasn't decided what to do with it yet, that's why I was asking about the head itself and its features. Like that quote dirtroad!

That seems to be a decent concept. It seemed to be fairly productive also. I would like to run one myself sometime.

Thanks dirtroad. The goals set out by FMI after 6 yrs in the clearing business were to develope a head that would be versatile to handle little quirks we run into from time to time; knocking down that pile of dirt that's in the way or sloping that bank so you can cross those little streams that would otherwise stick your machine, reaching up and shearing off that limb thats wants to scratch your windshield, having enough travel with your push bar to still be able to push the tree forward that you have raise up high to cut, etc. The body and drum are also designed to do a great job of processing the material. Designing a carbide tool to replace the horizonal chipper knives shouldn't be a problem. The vertical knives were added to provide added cutting action. This design of the drum with the holder arragement will open the door to the use of various tooling setups that one might want to try that would better suit their needs in their environment.

im new to the forum, i have a rc 100 with a gyro track head, i was just referred to this site and stumbled onto this forum and notice that new vertical brush cutter on Fmi's website. That tool is flat out awesome looking. I can see that it would be a very useful machine for my line of work. It looks like it would be very versatile and capable of laying down and cutting brush out of ditches. The question i have is what is the length of the cutter.

Is the vertical mower more or less a sickle bar type cutter?

Thanks miningman, the pictured one is 66". You can cut from 2 ft above the ground to app. 18 to 20 ft. depending on the ctl with mulitiple passes.
No this is not a sickle bar mower, it's a rotary cutter. It's about the same as the forestry mower but the cutting diameter is only 5". It's for cutting not mulching. You can see a short video of it working on the web site or a longer clip on the before mentioned youtube. Thanks
