Does anyone use a fold down rops with a canopy attached? Was wondering if it is too heavy to fold up and down. I need several inches less in hgt., in order to garage my TC35D NH Please give any advice necessary..Thanks!
Folding down the ROPS on a Class III Boomer with a canopy installed results in the front edge of the canopy being taller than it was before the ROPS was folded. Folding ROPS are only effective without canopies installed.
This sounds like a great opportunity for the Build-It Yourself boards. I am sure if everyone puts their heads together we can come up with a folding canopy for the folding ROP!
I haven't found this to be the case with my TC40. With the canopy installed, I have to fold back the ROPS in order to get the tractor into my shop. With the canopy back, I lowered the height by about 4 - 5 inches. The canopy is very heavy, so it's a two-man operation to do this. When I did it yesterday I didn't have a helper, so I tied a rope around the canopy and lowered it by threading the rope through the FEL arm as a sort of rope brake.
I solved both these problems in an illegal way. I eliminated the folding ability of the ROPS and shortened the total height by 5 inches by removing the bolts on the ROPS that it folded on and by using 1/4" by 1 1/4" steel bars I held the two halves together like with "leaf spring shackles". I used 3 shackles on each side and either used the existing holes on the ROPS or ran the bolts against the outside of the ROPS. Since I did not drill or change anything someone could always remove my braces and reinstal it as an original. I then mounted 2- 2x4 on the top edge of the ROPS, but did not make it higher, and mounted 2 pieces of pipe that I can slide my home made fiberglass roofing on 1/2 inch pipe into so that I can slide my canopy on and off, or I can leave it on as I go in my garage cause it is not any higher than my garage door. It may not be legal but it is just as strong but just 5 inches lower. Think about your options. Frank
The TC35D and TC40 should have the same frame and dimensions. I wonder if you have the R4 tires or not? I only need a couple of inches lower to garage my machine ( TC35D). I do not have a standard garage door. It is a 93" opening top to bottom. I haven`t got my machine delivered yet to try it out. I would hope folding the rops back with the canopy attached would enable enough room to clear the top of the door. Thanks, Tony
