I had originally wanted to get the old steering shaft rebuilt, and had taken it to a reputable machine shop. The guy was not able to do it right away due to the holidays.
Yesterday, I found a new shaft at a different Kubota , on the coast. This fits other Kubotas, as well Part # 67211-41120 Complete Nut and Ball.
Looking into reasons for the failure, it is definately the stress the loader, puts on the steering parts,on this model. The oil has always been changed, once a year at winterization, and there was no sign of corrosion at all in the box itself. The loader has been well used to move gravel, topsoil and other landscaping stuff.
The tractor is back in service now, and with the heavy snow warnings, we have ,will see its share of work today.
Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. Total bill for the repair, with all new seals, bearings, steering shaft, gaskets etc, was$ 410.00
Thanks again!!!
